'WINNER TAKES ALL' SET FOR DECEMBER 8 PhilBoxing.com Tue, 13 Nov 2007 After a ten-month long absence, boxing is back once again at the Mandaue City Sports Complex with an action packed eight-bout extravaganza. IBF Intercontinental super flyweight champion Z ?The Dream? Gorres gears up for battle against the rugged and former IBF/IBO flyweight world champion, Vic ?The Raging Bull? Darchinyan, as he climbs the ring in a tune-up exhibition fight against Indonesian Jemmy Gobel on December 8, 2007 at the Mandaue City Sports Complex. The 8-round, no-decision exhibition bout will showcase the readiness of the fleet-footed Gorres as he will attempt to dish out his best against the iron-fisted Indonesian. ?IBF by-laws do not allow a candidate to an elimination bout to fight so we have to contend to let Gorres do an 8-round, no-holds-barred exhibition bout to keep him sharp and battle-ready for the Darchinyan encounter", said Michael Aldeguer, who manages the amiable and clean-cut Gorres. Meanwhile, Darchinyan promised Gorres a hell of a fight when the time comes for them to face off in the ring. But boxing experts have some reservations on Darchinyan?s ability to give Gorres a good fight. Sports Nut observed how labored was his effort against the tough Federico Catubay, whose talent was seriously doubted, in their recent 12-round bout for the IBO flyweight title. Reigning IBF/IBO super flyweight champion Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire, Jr., who grabbed the title away from Darchinyan by way of knock out in the fifth round, predicts that the ALA Gym star will beat Darchinyan at least by decision. ?Darchinyan is a one-punch fighter?, observed Donaire, Jr., ?while Gorres can throw four punches at a time so he can win on points or by knockout along the way?. Meanwhile, Gorres is firing up the brunt of his training by taking on the heavy-puncher Gobel in an exhibition fight in Mandaue City. Gobel parades 14 wins out of 20 fights with 11 victories by knockout. Eight of his 11 KO victories came within the fourth round. He had attempted to snatch away the WBO Asia Pacific super flyweight crown from Pramuansak Posuwan of Thailand, but failed. The eight-card contest, billed as ?Winner Takes All?, also features Robert Allanic against Carlo Magale of Tagbilaran City and Weng Haya against Fernando Otic of Bantayan Island. Allanic and Haya are two standouts of the ALA Boxing Gym. Allanic and Haya are among two of ALA ?s boxing stable most promising pugilists and they will meet their match against erstwhile upcoming Carlo Magale and Fernando Otic respectively. |
