MALDONADO SAYS HE'LL BE A 'DEVIL' INSIDE THE RING
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Sat, 10 Nov 2007
Mexican Luis Maldonado has warned IBF and IBO world flyweight champion Nonito Donaire that he will be the 'devil' inside the ring when they meet on December 1 at the Foxwoods Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut.
Maldonado (37-1-1, 28 KO's), speaking to the Mexican press, has said that styles make fights, and that he is confident of pulling off an upset against the highly-talented Donaire as he has the style to thwart Donaire's surge.
The 29-year-old Maldonado informed that he has already logged in more than a week of training in Mexico, and will depart for the fight venue on November 26.
Donaire, meanwhile, shrugged off Maldonado's claim, saying that the good will always prevail over evil.
"He can be the devil inside the ring, but I'm too good for him," said the sharp and witty dual world champion.
Donaire and his trainer-father Nonito Sr are set to leave the Philippines on November 24, stay the weekend in San Leandro, California, before leaving for Connecticut.
Donaire, who has been preparing for the fight for a month now, continues to work out at the ALA Gym, and runs on the track or treadmill in the morning.
"As far as we know, we are in tremendous shape for this fight. We've never had this kind of training in the past. I want to make a statement. Maldonado should be ready," said the young champion.
