PhilBoxing.com

Denver Cuello and Sony Boy Jaro, RP minimum-weight and light-flyweight champions respectively retained their titles in contrasting fashions Sunday night at the Thunderbird Resort and Casino, Rizal.

Cuello started strong and landed punches better as the fight started and later in the 1st round, floored challenger Rollen del Castillo for the mandatory 8-count. Cuello maintained control of the fight with his combination of punches when he and Castillo clashed heads midway in the 3rd round. The accident opened a deep cut over Castillo's right eyebrow which bleed profusely. When Castillo was declared unfit to continue, the fight was declared a technical draw allowing Cuello to retain his title.

In the co-featured title fight, Sony Boy Jaro knocked down challenger Alfred Nagal three times in the first round with well timed right straights to score a technical knockout at 2' 42" in the round to keep his title.

In one of the supporting 10-rounders super-flyweight Richard Olisha scored a unanimous technical decision over Celso Danggod when the fight was stopped after the end of the 9th round. The deep cut over Danggod's forehead forced the referee to stop the contest with Olisha winning by the scores of 87-81, 85-84 and 86-82.

In the other 10-rounder, bantamweight Dante Contiga avenged his earlier TKO loss to Sonny Gonzales by a split decision. The scores were 97-94 for Gonzales, and 96-95 and 96-94 for Contiga.
