DANIEL QUIZON GAINS TIE FOR 2ND PLACE IN CHINA YOUTH CHESS INTERNATIONAL OPEN TOURNAMENT

MANILA, Philippines---Filipino Fide Master (FM) elect Daniel Quizon stunned International Master (IM) Batsuren Dambasuren of Mongolia Friday night to carry the fight for the Philippines and seize a share of second place after six rounds of the 2018 "Boyi Cup" China Youth Chess International Open Tournament in Harbin, China.

With the win, the pride of Dasmarinas, Cavite Quizon raised his total to 5.0 points, the same output of Peng Hongchi of China, Fide Master (FM) Amartuvshin Ganzorig of Mongolia and Woman International Master (WIM) Uuriintuya Uurtsaikh of Mongolia, his seventh round opponent.

Grandmaster (GM) Bai Jinshi of China toppled Agibileg Uurtsaikh of Mongolia to remained on top with 6.0 points in the Nine Round Swiss System World Chess Federation (FIDE) sanctioned tournament and being organized by the Chinese Chess Association using the 90 minutes with 30 second increment from move 1 time control format.

"?We'll be aiming for a better finish," said National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) Vice President Atty. Cliburn Anthony A. Orbe.

"We hope Daniel (Quizon) can sustain his winning form," last word of Atty. Orbe, the founding president of the newly-formed Philippine Executive Chess Association (PECA).

Woman Candidate Master Kylen Joy Mordido trounced compatriot Jerlyn Mae Moralde San Diego to stay in the running for a top 10 finish with 4.0 points.

However, another Filipino entry Michael Concio Jr. yielded to Cheng Yuanda of China. He remains at 3.5 points.

National Coach International Master (IM) Roel Abelgas would like to thank Dasmarinas, Cavite mayor Elpidio "Pidi" Barzaga Jr. and congresswoman Jenny Barzaga for shouldering the round trip ticket and allowances of the Filipino youth players and the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) who help their hotel accomodation.
