SCHAEFER SAYS PACQUIAO GOT A FAIR DEAL By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Fri, 19 Oct 2007 Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer says Filipino ring idol Manny Pacquiao got ?a substantial amount and a fair deal? for his rematch with Mexican legend Marco Antonio Barrera in Las Vegas last October 7. Schaefer made the remark in the light of several speculative reports on how much Pacquiao earned in the fight after Kurt Kizer, executive director of the Nevada State Athletic Commission informed Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today that Pacquiao?s purse was $2 million and that Barrera got the same amount. Schaefer said that while the pay-per-view numbers are not yet official he was confident that they would be ?similar to the last Pacquiao ? Erik Morales fight? which had 350,000 buys which is what Top Rank promoter Bob Arum said the Pacquiao-Barrera fight did. Schaefer said ?as far as it relates to how much money Manny Pacquiao will be paid it is really up to him to disclose? adding ?I don?t think it would be fair for other people talking about how much someone makes.? He emphasized that both Golden Boy Promotions and Top Rank ?want to make sure that Manny is happy and that he continues to get the biggest and best opportunities.? The Golden Boy CEO and Arum met last week to discuss who the next possible opponent for Pacquiao would be. Schaefer said it was ?a good meeting where it was clear that both of our promotional firms want to ensure the continued success of Manny. With Top Rank and Golden Boy on his side as co-promoters, Manny is well represented by the two most powerful entities in the sport today.?
