MARCH 10: A NIGHT OF CHAMPIONS IN HONOUR OF A CHAMPION

PhilBoxing.com

MARCH 10 TGW & SMITHY BRING THE BIG FIGHTS 19 in honour of Brayd Smith is set to be a night of champions in honour of a champion.

It's the annual Brayd Smith memorial fight card with an orange theme. The line up of fights could be a who's who of local boxing after promoter Brendon Smith released a list of names who are in the frame to feature on March 10.

"This is our biggest show every year and our most significant," Brendon Smith said.

"This one honours Brayd so the feature bouts on the night will be for the Brayd Smith WUC titles.

"In the past the likes of Michael Katsidis, Jack Asis and Herman Ene-Purcell have won Brayd Smith belts and on March 10 more champions will be honoured with this prestigious belt.

"No matches are locked in but we have a big stable featuring some of the biggest names in the country so I can assure you there will be some great fights on this card."

The list is headlined by reigning Commonwealth Champion Kris George, former IBO World Champion and recent super 8 title winner Jack Asis, undefeated Australian champion Brent Rice, State champion and super8 runner up Jamie Hilt and a host of others.

Among the names to raise eye brows was that of former two time Australian title holder Will Young who retired in 2016.

"It would be great to have all those names on the card, whether it's possible or not remains to be seen," Smith said.

"Kris George is on the verge of international stardom so opportunities may present overseas but we've proven in the past we're more than willing to bring the big names to Toowoomba so you never know.

"Jack Asis is hungrier than ever and that showed in his super8 win, he was also very close to Brayd so I know it means a lot to him to fight on this card.

"Will Young, yes it's raised a few eye brows and let's see what happens - never say never.

"There is a possibility of a third bout between Joel Stower and Olef Olsen and this one would be very befitting of the occasion seeing Joel was Brayd's best mate.

"Other big names primed for a big 2018 Brent Rice, Herman Ene-Purcell, Jamie Hilt, Steve Spark are also possibles for this card.

"We've also got our next wave of stars with the undefeated Chris Brackin and Gavan Hornery keen to build their careers.

"Gav Hornery and another young up and comer James Torres have agreed to fight so this one is likely to feature on March 10.

"This is going to be an exciting night of professional fights."

The March 10 card will also feature the Annual City vs Country Brayd Smith Amateur Cup and the Footy Tag Team challenge which has proven to be a crowd pleaser in the past.

"The footy tag team fights have been huge in the past so next year will be no different," Smith said.

"Clubs are already mapping out next season so we're urging them to nominate for the tag team now.

"Prize money will be up for grabs and it's also great exposure for their clubs.

"We'll also showcase a number of amateur stars in the Brayd Smith Cup.

"This will be a night to remember, March 10, mark it down in your diaries."
