PhilBoxing.com

Gasanov.

CHONGQING, CHINA ? Russian Gasan Gasanov beat the hometown favorite Qu Peng of China and collected two regional belts ? the WBO Asia Pacific and WBA Asia light heavyweight titles.

After a feeling out opening round, Gasanov became the aggressor and sent Qu on the backfoot with a hard head shot. Qu seemed sluggish for most of the fight and Gasanov easily overcame his height disadvantage.

Qu?s right hand did land on a few occasions but it was Gasanov who landed the more telling blows all night long.

The judges scores ? Sungworn Klungboonkrung (Thailand) ? 98-92, Mekin Sumon (Thailand) ? 96-94, Zhao Yanfang (China) ? 98-92.

Qu drops to his second loss at 12W-2L-1D,8KO?s while Gasanov improves to 15W-5L-1D, 2KO?s.

Supervising for the WBO was Asia Pacific VP Leon Panoncillo while Prommase Jaksurak represented the WBA.

YANG AND DONG WIN WBO GREATER CHINA TITLES

In a battle of unbeaten junior welterweights, Yang Yongqiang gave a dominant performance against Fu Kaisheng to capture the WBO Greater China title in the 140lb division.

Yang?s power was the difference in the fight and he pinned and pummeled Fu on the ropes on several occasions. The scores ? Yuan Yunzi, Sungworn Klungboonkrung and Tao Zhuwu all had it 79-73.

Fu drops to 6-1,1KO, Yang is now 8-0,6KO?s.

Dong Youli (new WBO Greater China welterweight champion).

Dong Youli kept his undefeated record and won the WBO Greater China welterweight title in a slugfest against Abulimiti Tuersunniyazi.

It was a back and forth battle but Dong?s body attack and punch variety was enough for the win. Scores ? Mark Leong and Han Hongxiang ? 79-73, Mekin Sumon ? 77-75.

Abulimiti drops to his second loss at 4-2-1,3KO?s while Dong is now 10-0-1,6KO?s.

LI TONGHUI WINS IBF ASIA TITLE

Li Tonghui (China) had more trouble than expected against the more experienced Larry Siwu (Indonesia) but the Chinese boxer piled up enough points to win the IBF Asia junior middleweight title.

Scores ? 96-94,96-94,98-92.

Li is now 10-1,5KO?s, Siwu goes down to 26-10,22KO?s. Supervising for the IBF was Xiao Rong Qiang

Li Tonghui (new IBF Asia junior middleweight champion).

The fight between Filipino Adam Diu Abdulhamid of the Sanman Gym of Gen.Santos City and Chinese boxer Ik Yang was downgraded to an exhibition after Yang came in two divisions overweight. The fight was stopped in the second after an accidental clash of heads inflicted a cut on Yang.

Zulpikaer Maimaitiali knocked down Yu Zhiying in round two and Yu?s corner decided not to continue fighting after round four.

Zulpikaer is now 9-1-1,7KO?s and Yu is1-1.
