Carlos Balderas Wins on His Pro Debut
By Ed de la Vega, DDS PhilBoxing.com Mon, 10 Apr 2017

LA Live, Los Angeles:- Carlos Balderas the Ex- US Olympian who represented the USA Boxing Team as a lightweight, tonight won his first fight as a pro.
Balderas (1-0-0,1KO) of Sta. Maria, California battered a reluctant opponent, Thomas Smith (3-5-1, 2KO) of Dallas, Texas all through round one.
Balderas, showing the confidence that earned him a berth at the Rio Olympics last summer, came out swinging as the bell sounded the start of the fight. The 20-year old Balderas showed outstanding skill sets honed by his many amateur fights and relentless training with his father-coach, Senon Balderas.
Balderas delivered his heavy bombs with his right hand that were set through stiff well-placed and frequent left jabs. He never gave Smith a chance to get started and he chased the poor Texan from pillar to post.
As the bell sounded the second round, Smith?s corner informed the referee that he has had enough and he quit on his stool.
With that, Balderas earned his first win as a pro drawing praises from promoter Richard Schaefer and a couple of Mexican boxing legends, Eric Morales and Israel Vasquez who walked with him to the ring to support the Mexican-American prospect from California.
The fight was the opening TV fight for Premier Boxing Champions special Sunday presentation and was shown live on FS1.
