JIN WINS WBO GREATER CHINA WELTER TITLE, NAZARENO EDGES ALIMU

PhilBoxing.com

SHANGHAI, CHINA - Jin Yangcheng claimed the WBO Greater China welterweight belt in a bloody Friday the 13th fight against Ning Xinbo at the One Show Space in Shanghai.

The fight had a tense start with both boxers unable to put their punches in bunches. Ning did a lot of clowning but that proved to be his undoing as Jin slowly piled up the points. Repeated clash of heads inflicted a cut on Jin?s scalp in the sixth and Ning?s scalp in the eighth and final round.

The scores ? Edward Ligas ? 80-72, Sawaeng Thaweekoon ? 79-73 and Mekin Sumon ? 77-75 all for Jin. The referee was Atty.Danrex Tapdasan.

This fight served as the finals for the 147lb division for the League of Fists boxing tournament. Ning was substituting for the boxer who beat him in the semis last May 28, 2016, Abulimti Tuersunniyazi , who was unable to fight in the finals because of an arm injury.

The most anticipated undercard bout of the night was the match-up between Alimu Tuerson, the WBO Greater China super welterweight champion and grizzled Filipino veteran Dan ?Iron Man? Nazareno.

Tuerson used his long jab and mobility while Nazareno relied on aggression and body punching. Both boxers had their moments but Nazareno landed the harder punches throughout the fight. Tuerson?s most effective punch was his counter right when he caught Nazareno coming in but the Filipino?s aggression and ring smarts pulled him through. Nazareno was also coming off a long layoff but he managed to shake off the rust in this six rounder.

The judges? scores ? Zhao Yubin (CHN) ? 58-56 for Alimu, Edward Ligas (PHL) and Mekin Sumon (THAI) ? 58-56 for Nazareno.

This was Alimu?s first loss- 7-1-1,1KO while Nazareno goes up to 22-13,17KO?s.

Li Leshan beat Filipino Christian Abila in another six rounder.Scores ? 59-55 from Sawaeng Thaweekoon and Yuan Yunzi and 58-56 from Yin Haiyang.

In the League of Fists junior welterweight semi-final, Yongqiang Yang handily beat Kuerbanjian Qiong by unanimous decision. Scores of Danrex Tapdasan, Edward Ligas and Mekin Sumon ? 59-55.

Ren Yi beat Wang Shengjun by TKO in their cruiserweight battle after Wang failed to answer the bell for round two. Wang was knocked down by a left-right combo in the opening round.

For the other undercards - Chen Weilin beat Dai Xianpeng by majority decision,Cong Wenbin got a unanimous decision against Abudukadier Yimamuaishan, Mu Xiaolu won against Fan Mingsheng who did not answer the bell for the 4th round and Aikerimujiang stopped Yu Jaiqi in 1:06 of the first round.

The League of Fists is promoted by SECA and Top Rank and officiated by the Professional Boxing Commission of China. The WBO Greater China bout was supervised by WBO VP for Asia-Pacific Leon Panoncillo.
