FRANCISCO’S WBO TITLE DEFENSE ON “THE MAIN EVENT”
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Sat, 08 Sep 2007
The WBO Asia Pacific flyweight title defense of stylish Draian Francisco against Thailand’s Wanmeechok Singwancha will be featured on the top-rated Viva Sports weekly boxing show “The Main Event’ which is telecast on Sundays at 4 p.m. over RPN 9.
The show is also replayed the following Sunday on the increasingly popular sports and entertainment channel Viva Prime.
The undefeated Francisco who is regarded as one of the many promising prospects for world honors stepped into the ring at the Elorde Sports Center grand ballroom with a record of 12-0 with 9 knockouts.
The Thai challenger who was reportedly a slugger sported a record of 16-5 with 11 knockouts.
An added feature on “The Main Event” which is sponsored by Tanduay, the No.1 Rhum, Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation and the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes office will be an exclusive coverage of the dinner hosted by renowned Cebu boxing patron Tony Aldeguer, his charming wife Lou and the Aldeguer family for the Philippine Team that routed Mexico 5-1 in the World Cup at the Arco Arena in Sacramento last August 11.
Among the special guests were celebrated trainer Freddie Roach, Tagbilaran City Mayor Dan Neri Lim while the boxers were led by newly crowned WBO bantamweight champion Gerry Penalosa. Penalosa and his wife Goody flew in from Manila for the occasion in which well-known promoter Sammy Gello-ani announced an unprecedented six championship fight card at the Waterfront Hotel on September 30.
The show also provides fight fans with footage of the sparring of Donnie Nietes who will fight for the vacant WBO minimum weight title, AJ “Bazooka” Banal who battles a tough Mexican for the Youth crown and Rocky Fuentes who defends his Philippine flyweight title against Danilo Lerio.
There’s also an interview with Roach and from Jannelle So’s popular Kababayan LP show from Los Angeles, an interview with newly crowned North American Boxing Federation super bantamweight champion Bernabe Concepcion and his manager Aljoe Jaro.
