SINGH AND CHEKA MAKE WEIGHT FOR DELHI?S NIGHT OF THE CHAMPIONS

NEW DELHI, INDIA ? Hometown hero Vijender Singh and Francis Cheka of Tanzania are all set for their WBO Asia-Pacific super middleweight battle this Saturday December 17.
During the official weigh-in, Singh weighed in at 76 kgs or 167.5 lbs while Cheka stepped on the scales at 74.7kgs or 164.75lbs.
Singh is a bronze medalist at the 2006 Asian Games and 2008 Olympics, winning the first boxing medal for his country. He is on a fast track to stardom with a record of seven fights with six KO?s. He won his WBO Asia Pacific belt last July by unanimous verdict against Kerry Hope of Australia last July. This will be Singh?s first defense of the title.
Cheka (32W-9L-2D,17KO?S) captured a world title with the WBF in 2013 and various regional belts with the IBF, UBO and WBF.
The weigh-in was supervised by WBO VP for Asia-Pacific Leon Panoncillo and the officials of the Professional Boxing Commission, International.
The undercards will also feature Indian boxers against foreign opponents:
Pardeep Karera (65.5kgs) vs Scott Edwards (67.7kgs) of Australia ? 4 rounds
Kuldeep Dhanda (60.8kgs) vs Egy Rozten (60.2kgs) of Indonesia ? 6 rounds
Dhairmender Grewal (89.6kgs) vs Abasi Kyobe (94.7kgs) of Uganda ? 4 rounds
Deepak Tanwar (66.1kgs) vs Suritonyo Bara Boys (67.2kgs) of Indonesia ? 4 rounds
Rajesh Kumar (59.7kgs) vs Mubara Sseguya (59.8kgs) of Uganda ? 4 rounds
The fight billed as ?Night of the Champions? will be held at Delhi?s Thyagaraj Stadium which was the venue for the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
The Professional Boxing Commission also conducted a brief seminar for Indian officials about the role of corner inspectors, dressing room inspectors, proper handwrapping and a refresher course on the correct way to score a professional fight.
