OSCAR DE LA HOYA PRESENTS NEW, STATE-OF-THE-ART BOXING EQUIPMENT TO AZTECA BOXING CLUB IN CITY OF BELL WHILE JOINED BY DOZENS OF YOUTH IN ATTENDANCE PhilBoxing.com Sat, 29 Oct 2016  LOS ANGELES (October 28, 2016) Olympic gold medalist and 10-time world champion Oscar De La Hoya today presented new-state-of-the-art boxing equipment valued at thousands of dollars at Azteca Boxing Club. Also at the giveaway, De La Hoya honored California Municipal Finance Authority as the 2016 Corporate Partner of the Year for his namesake Foundation in recognition of their commitment to serving youth in Southern California. "I was five years old - the age of many of the kids here -- when I first started boxing," spoke Chairman and CEO Oscar De La Hoya. "You start with a dream as simple as becoming a world champion, and with hard work, sacrifice, discipline it will result in something all the more bigger than what you expect." "Today was made possible by our partners from the California Municipal Finance Authority, Azteca Boxing Club and everyone from Golden Boy Promotions. I love the fact that we can come together and give back to the communities that matter the most to us." This was the fourth annual boxing equipment giveaway the Oscar De La Hoya Foundation has hosted for after-school youth programs. The Foundation, with the support of its corporate partner of the year California Municipal Finance Authority is donating new, state-of-the-art boxing equipment to six gyms in Southern California that serve youth in economically disadvantaged communities plagued by gang and drug violence. The equipment will help these local gyms to provide youth in their communities with an opportunity to engage in boxing as an after-school program alternative to gang activities. Recipients of the Foundation's boxing equipment donations this giving season include Azteca Boxing Club, Sarabia Gym, C M Boxing Stables, Boys & Girls Club, Westside Boxing Club, and LAPD Newton Division. About the Oscar De La Hoya Foundation In 1995, De La Hoya started his namesake Foundation to help improve the quality of life for those living in disadvantaged communities. The Oscar De La Hoya Foundation supports the Oscar De La Hoya Animo Charter High School, the Cecilia Gonzalez De La Hoya Cancer Center and the Oscar De La Hoya Labor and Delivery Center and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (both located at White Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles) as well as numerous after-school programs that help guide young people toward leading positive lives and away from the circumstances of gang violence, juvenile delinquency, and substance abuse.  |
