Harold Lederman & Ron Katz Ring 8 Guest Speakers Tuesday night

PhilBoxing.com

NEW YORK (October 13, 2016) - Hall-of-Famer Harold Lederman and international matchmaker Ron Katz will be Ring 8's guest speakers this Tuesday night (Oct. 18) monthly meeting, starting at 7 p.m. ET, at O'Neill's Restaurant, located at 64-21 53rd Drive in Maspeth, New York.

"We're very fortunate to have such knowledgeable speakers," Ring 8 president Bob Duffy said. "Both are highly respected in their areas of expertise, Harold in judging and Ron in matchmaking. Between the two of them with all of their interesting experiences in boxing, our members are sure to enjoy a memorable evening listening and talking to them about boxing."

The venerable Lederman, universally recognized as one of the most revered boxing judges in history, was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHOF) this past June. He is also an inductee in the New York State Boxing Hall of Fame (NYSBHOF), which is sponsored by Ring 8.

In 1965, Lederman started judging amateur bouts in order to gain experience and two years later he was granted a professional judge's license from the New York State Athletic Commission. Among the most notable fights he officiated include Emile Griffith vs. Dick Tiger II, Ken Buchanan vs. Ismael Laguna II, Roberto Duran vs. Esteban DeJesus I, Muhammad Ali vs. Ken Norton III, Roberto Duran vs. Carlos Palomino, Eusebio Pedroza vs. Rocky Lockridge I, Michael Spinks vs. Larry Holmes I and Evander Holyfield vs. DwightQawi I.

However, Lederman is perhaps best known as the "unofficial" judge for HBO Championship Boxing, which he has been doing since 1986. In 1999, he retired as an active judge to concentrate on his HBO duties.

Katz is a veteran matchmaker who has worked for promotes like Top Tank, Sugar Ray Leonard and Butch Lewis. For the past decade, he has served as matchmaker for Joe DeGuardia's Star Boxing.

Prior to working in boxing, Katz was a company manager for a number of touring acts, including the rock band, KISS.

Known as a fan's matchmaker and tabbed, "Little Teddy Brenner," a few of Katz' most successfully matched bouts during his four decades in that position include James Toney vs. Michael Nunn, Chris Algieri vs. Ruslan Provodnikov, and Joe Smith, Jr. vs. Andrzej Fonfara.
ABOUT RING 8: Ring 8 became the eighth subsidiary of what was then known as the National Veteran Boxers Association - hence, RING 8 - and today the organization's motto still remains: Boxers Helping Boxers.

RING 8 is fully committed to supporting less fortunate people in the boxing community who may require assistance in terms of paying rent, medical expenses, or whatever justifiable need.
