PACQUIAO NOW MANAGES RODEL MAYOL
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Mon, 20 Aug 2007
Superstar Manny Pacquiao, in deep training for a rematch with Marco Antonio Barrera, continues to find time to nurture his managerial career as he has just taken over the reins of the hard-hitting Rodel Mayol.
According to sources from Los Angeles, Pacquiao had already discussed the details of the managerial transfer with Mayol's former handlers, and everything has been finalized and sealed.
The same source added that Mayol is now being trained by Nonoy Neri, Pacquiao's Filipino assistant trainer who has been left in LA as Pacquiao trains in Cebu.
Mayol is coming off a heart-breaking defeat at the hands of IBF junior flyweight champ Ulises Solis in a fight where he came close to winning the title.
Mayol, according to reports, is reportedly slated to see action on October 6 underneath the Pacquiao-Marco Antonio Barrera rematch at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
Also being lined up to see action on October 6 is undefeated Filipino Mercito Gesta, who is being trained by Carl Penalosa, Jr.
Another Filipino fighter, featherweight Michael Farenas, is also set to arrive in the US and sign up with a major American boxing outfit, added the source.
