PE?ALOSA TO GIVE DARCHINYAN OR ARCE A TITLE SHOT By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Sat, 18 Aug 2007 WBC founding secretary general Rudy Salud says he has convinced newly crowned WBO bantamweight champion Gerry Pe?alosa not to fight super bantamweight champion Daniel Ponce De Leon because he is “too big and too strong” for the smaller, 35 year old Filipino southpaw. Salud said that after they talked Pe?alosa assured him “not to worry because if you don’t want me to fight Ponce De Leon, I wont. I promise you.” Pe?alosa has a great deal of respect for Salud, his former manager who was able to arrange three super flyweight title challenges for him, all of which Pe?alosa lost in controversial decisions. Salud said he suggested that Pe?alosa fight either former IBF/IBOflyweight champion Vic Darchinyan who lost his titles in a stunning fifth round knockout to classy Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire or Mexican slugger Jorge Arce. He said Darchinyan was “crazy and will fight anybody even (Manny) Pacquiao” while Arce will also be “a good opponent. Besides, both fights will pay good.” Salud said if he makes $200,000 to $300,000 it will be good and Pe?alosa could then retire. Meantime, North American Boxing Federation super bantamweight champion Bernabe Concepcion informed Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today that he will be featured on the undercard of the rematch between Filipino ring idol Manny Pacquiao and Marco Antonio Barrera on October 6 in Las Vegas. However, Concepcion who is coming off an impressive fourth round KO win over highly touted Gabriel Elizondo said there was no word as yet on who his opponent will be.
