TGW CAMPAIGN LAUNCHES APPEAL FOR LOCAL FAMILY AFFECTED BY BRAIN CANCER PhilBoxing.com Wed, 20 Jul 2016 ![]() ANOTHER ASPECT OF THE TGW CAMPAIGN TO BRING A NEUROSURGEON TO TOOWOOMBA that perhaps remains untold is the amount of stories about local families who are suffering from illnesses and injuries that require a neurosurgeon. This has been no more evident than last week when TGW Campaign president Brendon Smith met Bec Grice. "I met Bec at Extraordinary Joe coffee shop in Toowoomba ironically just after myself and James O'Shea had just concluded a meeting with Ray Fairweather from Saint Andrews," Smith said. "Bec said to me - we're right behind your campaign' that's when I learnt about her story. "Bec told me how her five year old daughter Charlotte has stage two brain cancer. Smith called on a few favours from the boxing community and the Toowoomba community in general to get behind Bec Grice's family. "After meeting Bec at the coffee shop, Brendon went into overdrive to help this family," TGW Campaign Vice President James O'Shea said. "He was on the phone, ringing, texting, emailing as many people as he could to tell them about the Grice family's story. "As always those around Brendon answered his call and today you see the amount of people here at Extraordinary Joe's and putting their hand in their pocket to help the family. "The boxing community is wonderful at helping those in need, today is a prime example. "It's just the start of the campaign and people can donate money to the cause right up until Brendon's next fight show on October twenty two." Five year old Charlotte Grice has already had three surgeries to remove three tumours. The last surgery was an epic fifteen hour operation and a three and half week stint in a Melbourne hospital. Since that surgery Charlotte has needed an MRI every three months. After early scans were positive, recently they received a bad diagnosis - a growth which has progressively increased in size and resulted in seizures. She will now require more surgery in the not to distant future. "The resilience of this family is incredible," Brendon Smith said. "Charlotte is a real little fighter and so is her mum Bec and the rest of the family. "I was blown away by Bec's attitude when I met her. "She hasn't asked for help, she didn't want help - but we've ignored that request and we will be helping this young family. "Financially they have a tough time ahead and obviously emotionally it's going to take its toll as well. "If we can raise some money which can go towards medical costs, travel costs, family costs - what ever its needed for, I know it's going to a very worthy cause." Today is just the start of the campaign. If anyone wishes to donate to the cause you can drop your donation to Smithy's TGW Gym. Make sure you place your donation in a sealed envelope with your name and a message for the Grice family. Or you can make a direct deposit Account Name Bec & Corey Grice BSB 064348 ACCOUNT 10004087 The fundraiser will culminate on October twenty two at TGW & Smithy Bring the Big Fights 14 at Rumours International. All of the local fighters have made donation from their fight purse to the family. On the night the buckets will go around to the crowd with every cent being handed directly to the Grice family on the night. "This is a good local family enduring a tough time and I felt we had an opportunity to help them. "Today we've started a fundraiser to raise as much money as possible to help this family. "Between our fighters, friends, supporters and sponsors we handed the family around forty envelopes with donations. "For the moment we've put our TGW campaign on hold and it's all about this family," Smith said.
