THERE'S ALWAYS A FIRST TIME AND BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME, PRINCE ALBERT By Maloney L. Samaco PhilBoxing.com Sun, 10 Jul 2016 ![]() Right after his heartbreaking loss to the tough Mexican Cesar Juarez, Prince Albert Pagara said sorry to Filipino fans who expected victory from a previously unbeaten fighter. He was medically cleared after undergoing CT Scan and other procedures. But it was evident that the Prince was hurt physically and yes, psychologically and mentally. The first defeat was a bitter pill to swallow especially for a fighter who never lost an amateur fight and went undefeated in his first 26 professional bouts. But boxing life must go on and in due time Albert can move on. The greatest boxer pound-for-pound Sugar Ray Robinson had tasted defeats. And so did Muhammad Ali, Joe Louis, Mike Tyson, Julio Cesar Chavez, Sugar Ray Leonard and other renowned boxing stars, except Rocky Marciano and Floyd Mayweather. Manny Pacquiao's first loss was to Rustico Torrecampo in his 12th fight, Donnie Nietes to Angky Angkotta in his 13th, Nonito Donaire to Rosendo Sanchez in his 2nd, Flash Elorde to Kid Independence in his 10th, and John Riel Casimero to Ramon Garcia Hirales in his 15th fight. The younger Pagara lost to the Mexican warrior in his 27th pro bout. "Sorry to the fans, I tried my best but I was unlucky. I will recover next time," said Prince Albert when he was interviewed after he passed all medical check-ups in the hospital. "Thank you for your support," he sent this writer a message. "I was caught offhanded. He hit me in the head and it sent shivers to all my body." In his birthplace Maasin City, Southern Leyte, we were in distress with the loss of our hometown hero. But still we will give him a hero's welcome during the city's fiesta. Win or loss Prince Albert we are proud of you. At 22, still you have a bright future and lots of lesson learned.
