MAYOL PAID AT LAST
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Sat, 11 Aug 2007
Rodel Mayol who had IBF light flyweight champion Ulises Solis on the verge of a knockout but couldn?t finish him and in the end lost by an eighth round knockout has at long last been paid.
Mayol initially disputed the claim of Aljoe Jaro that he was paid by check after Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today and Philboxing.com ran the story sending us an email yesterday evening which stated ?I am so sorry Sir but have heard the news that I have already been paid as quoted in Philboxing.com. But then, until this time I am doing this email, I have not been paid yet.?
We called Mayol by overseas telephone at 10:00 a.m. Saturday (Manila Time) and he disclosed ?I got my money Sir which is $8,000.? Aljoe Jaro earlier indicated that Mayol would get around $10,000 from his purse which was reportedly $25,000.
Mayol said there are plans for him to have a tune-up fight sometime in October but said he didn?t know who the opponent would be. Mayol also said he has resumed jogging.
He said he is staying at the plush residence of Filipino ring idol Manny Pacquiao who Mayol said ?is doing fine.? Informed that the Games and Amusements Board had upheld the managerial contract of Japanese businessman Yasuo Matsuoka, Mayol said he would try to settle the issue.
