Jerwin Ancajas Waits a Little Longer By Epifanio M. Almeda PhilBoxing.com Thu, 14 Apr 2016 The 16 April 2016 115-lb IBF championship bout between champion McJoe Arroyo (17-0-0, 8 KOs) of Puerto Rico and challenger Jerwin Ancajas (24-1-1, 16 KOs) in Bacoor City, Philippines, will not push through due to the reported injury of the champion. The injury appears to be an excuse for Arroyo to not push through with the fight as the report on his injury included his team?s dislike to travel all the way to the Philippines and the mention of a neutral venue for the fight. The International Boxing Federation rule on injury provides: ?10.F. Notification of Scheduled Bout/Obligation to Comply 5. Limitation on Request for Exception: Unavailability after Purse Bid due to illness or injury No Exception to Regulation can be requested once the IBF/USBA has sent out the notice of the date of the purse bid or a contract has been signed for a mandatory bout. In the event the Challenger becomes unavailable due to injury or illness after the purse bid has been held, the Champion will be ordered to begin negotiation unde4r the rule with the next highest leading available contender. In the event the Champion becomes unavailable due to injury or illness after the purse bid has been held, and such disability has been proven to and accepted by a physician approved by the President of the IBF/USBA, he may be granted a medical extension not to exceed sixty (60) days. If it is determined by the physician that the Champion will be disabled for a period to exceed sixty (60) days, the Championship Committee, with the approval of the Board of Directors, may vacate the title.? In the meantime, Jerwin remains patient. Well said, Jerwin. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Epifanio M. Almeda. |
