CZAR AMONSOT 101% READY FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP BOUT By Rod Mijares PhilBoxing.com Thu, 19 Jul 2007 Amonsot poses with Mayor Lim at Vegas Boxing Gym. Filipino WBO Asia Pacific Lightweight Champion Czar Amonsot and his world class trainer, Edito Villamor arrived in Las Vegas at 9:45 p.m. Monday night and was welcomed at the airport by Tony Martin, the Las Vegas resident and official cutman of ALA Gym. Waiting at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino where they were both billeted until the fight were Roger Wood and Marco Roman of Golden Boy Promotions who immediately took care of their needs. Early morning workout at 6 a.m. was immediately arranged by them so that Amonsot and Villamor could continue their morning exercise and jogging for the next five days until the fight on Saturday, July 21. Tony Martin also arranged for 2 p.m. workout everyday at the Vegas Boxing gym at the Sahara Avenue just few miles away from Mandalay Bay. Also present to welcome them at Mandalay Bay was Mayor Dan Neri Lim who took a break from his constituents of Tagbilaran City, Bohol to provide the much needed support to Czar Amonsot who is like a son to him. Mayor Lim and his old time buddy, Lito of Las Vegas, honored Amonsot, Villamor and Tony Martin with a wholesome dinner at Mandalay Bay. The ever affable and charismatic mayor give Czar a pleasant pep talk only a good father could provide to a son facing a very challenging but reachable task of conquering a world championship belt. “In your fight, you have to treat it as the last fight of your life. So you have to do your very best. Be sure that your effort will not only satisfy you but most importantly all the other people watching your fight live at Mandalay Bay and all those watching in their homes all over the world, especially, your kababayan in the Philippines. You have to amaze them, make them proud and happy. When you fight, you have to fight as Czar Amonsot, not like any other boxer but Czar Amonsot, the champion with your own identity and boxing skills,” Mayor Lim advised. “During the fight do not ever get angry. Keep your poise, talk to yourself and most important of all, like any good athlete and son to your mother, ask God for help,” added Mayor Lim. Edward Martin, the son of Tony Martin and a very good friend of Czar was happy to see Czar physically fit and focus. “His physique is outstanding and his abs show toughness. I sensed no distraction bugging him and I think his mind is entirely set for the championship.” “He is ready to fight. He is ready to win. After more than 60 rounds of sparring sessions at Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles for three weeks before arriving in Las Vegas, he is physically fit and mentally prepared to face all odds. He shows more discipline and more abiding to our instructions,” Edito Villamor said with pride. “He is ready to go.” Weigh-in is set on Friday at Mandalay Bay at 2 p.m. Czar Amonsot was also happy to see his manager, Michael Aldeguer and international promoter Sammy Gelo-Ani at Mandalay Bay who arrived from the Philippines last Tuesday to support him.
