NBA -- Depleted Heat cool off Wizards
By Roman David Garay PhilBoxing.com Tue, 23 Feb 2016
MIAMI- The Washington Wizards romped into American Airlines Saturday and played their third straight game in three nights since the All-Star break but the Heat led by Hassan Whiteside's 25 points and 23 rebounds ran them out of the building, 114-94.
Miami played without its injured All- Stars for the second straight game, Chris Bosh who is out indefinitely because of blood clots and Dwyane Wade ( knee soreness ).
Whiteside was spectacular coming off the league office's imposed one-game suspension. Whiteside became fastest in Heat history to 300 blocks, now has 999 rebounds in a Heat uniform, a rebound shy to became the fastest in that franchise category as well. Whiteside said he needed to do something to help the team while watching the Atlanta game during his suspension.
Goran Dragic added 24 points and 8 assists and Loul Deng again played well and chipped in 27 points and 10 rebounds. Dragic mentioned that they are playing a much faster paced game but aware and cautious about the turnovers.
The duo have now tallied a combined 98 points, 33 rebounds, 22 assists in the last two games sans Bosh and Wade.
Head coach Erik Spoelstra gushed about his team's performance in the last 48 hours, "We wanted to play a faster pace. I know fans love to see this and I know our players like to play in it."
On missing his All-Stars, " We can make an excuse when guys are missing. We can make an excuse when guys come back. Whatever. Get it done."
He also added a few words about his behemoth center, Whiteside, "The next challenge for him is the consistency. Now does he have to do a 20-20 again on Monday? No, that is not what we're asking for.
Spo continued, " It's the not the statistics. It's his approach. His walk-through was fantastic and his detail and effort and focus during the course of the game was probably close to a season-high."
Miami out rebounded Washington 67-45 and yielded only 4 fast break points to its division rivals.
Wizards were led by Bradley Beal with 19 points while Jared Dudley added 16 points in a losing cause.
Miami, coupled with a Hawks loss also in the same night have taken sole possession atop of Southeast Division standings.
Miami will play Indiana Pacers at home Monday, Feb. 22.
Washington will meet with the Pelicans on Tuesday, Feb. 23.
