Arizona Boxing News & Notes With Don Smith: GGG on HBO, Alcine Moves to Arizona, & More By Don Smith PhilBoxing.com Tue, 16 Feb 2016 Boxing Fans, Tickets went on Sale Tuesday, February 16 (noon PT) at the Forum in Los Angeles for the scheduled 12 round World Championship Middleweight bout between titleholder Gennady ?GGG? Golovkin ,34-031 knockouts, and mandatory challenger Dominic ?Lights Out? Wade, 18-0-12 knockouts. The HBO televised live event will be held at the Forum- former home of the Los Angeles Lakers. Ticket prices are: $400.00, $300.00, $200.00, $100.00 and $30.00 and available by calling 1-800-745-3000. The event is expected to sell-out in a few days, so hurry don?t tarry if you plan to attend. Adding to the intrigue of the April 23 boxing card is the inclusion of Roman ?Chocolatito? Gonzalez arguably the consensus # 1 pound for pound fighter in the world. He may get a fistful of disagreement from supporters of GGG, Mikey Garcia and Guillermo Rigondeaux. That debate can be waged in a different column. Nicaraguan Gonzalez (44-0-38 knockouts) will be defending his world flyweight title against Puerto Rican McWilliams Arroyo (16-2-14 knockouts). A Gonzalez win would undoubtedly fuel a demand for a Roman Gonzalez vs. Juan Francisco Estrada whom Gonzalez defeated in 2012 at 108 lbs. The highly anticipated grudge match would, most assuredly, be aired on HBO as a main Event according to K2 Promotions executive Tom Loffler. GGG (Silver Medal winner in the 2004 Olympic Games) turns 34 this year and he hopes to dispose of Wade and turn his attention to Saul ?Canelo? Alvarez (46-1-1) who has an impending May 7 bout against Amir Khan (31-3) with Alvarez?s WBC 160 lb. title belt at stake. A Khan victory and a Wade upset would postpone and tarnish an otherwise dream match for boxing fans, worldwide. Arizona Boxing News & Notes sought and was granted permission to send questions to Team GGG and we hope to receive a reply from the popular middleweight and if he responds favorable, we hope our readers will appreciate the diversity of our proposed questioned that were forwarded to Golovkin who now lives in the state of California with his wife and son. We did include 3 questions submitted by 2 very knowledgeable fans; there is no check in the mail. AZ Boxing News: Salvador Sanchez is off the Fight Hard Promotions ?Warfare: The Battle Begins? at Valentino?s Event Center in Phoenix on Saturday March 12. 0-1 115 lb. boxer Edgar Ortiz (Haus Boxing in Scottsdale) and Super flyweight Muhammad Waseen (2-0-Journeyman Promotions) are new additions to the FHP card. Arizona Congressman Ruben Gallego (D-7) and Arizona State Senate Candidate Maritza Miranda Saenz (D-27) have been invited to the event which will feature a color guard and a military salute to the men and women who have worn the uniform in service of America. Doors open at 5 PM, parking is free and 1st bout commences at 6 PM. The Center is located at 43rd Avenue and Indian School Road in Phoenix. A media event and weigh-in will be announced in the near future. FHP is donating X number of tickets to soldiers and members of their family; no, you can?t enlist today for free tickets. ABNN wants to give a special shout out to FHP for thinking of the troops who protect us; Iron Boy and Bout Maker Promotions have taken similar steps in the past. Onetime top 20 Middleweight contender Derek Edwards is back in Arizona training at Haus boxing in Scottsdale; the location for their Friday March 11 FHP weigh-in. Fight Hard hasn?t decoded on the time of the day (probably in the afternoon) for the event. Edwards (27-6-1) needs to return to winning form before the curtain comes down on his career. ?The Black Lion? has lost 4 of his last 5 bouts. It is always hard for an aging fighter to say goodbye; we wish him the best. ?..Highly touted Russian Oleg Zubenko (69 KG or 147 lbs.) turned professional recently and will be on the FHP card at Valentino?s Event Center on March 12 with popular Arizona fighters Abel Ramos and Andrew Hernandez. Valentino?s is located at 43rd Avenue & Indian School Road in Phoenix. Iron Boy 32 Ticket prices for the Iron Boy 32 Show at the Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix on 2/12/16 are set at $47.50 & $59.54 according to a spokesperson for the show venue Doors open at 5 PM and 1st bout commences at 6 PM. Castro 14-0, prized Phoenix featherweight prospect Francisco C. de Vaca 14-0, super lightweight Luis Olivares 9-0, Arizona featherweight Paul Romero 6-0-1 and a pair of youngsters: Luis Espinoza 1-0 & Jesse Garcia a featherweight who received rave reviews after winning his debut, recently. Tickets are available online and at the Box-office. Aside Note: Arizona referees Wes Melton, Richard Soto and Chris Flores will work the Iron Boy 32 Show at the Celebrity. ABNN has been critical of the Arizona Boxing Commission for overworking referees in the past; but, three working refs for the 2/20 card is appropriate. We thank the boxing Commission for acting responsible and please check Commission website for upcoming Arizona boxing and MMA events. Inside Jabs: Hard Knocks Gym and boxer Edgar Brito are twiddling their thumbs waiting for Iron Boy Promotions to release the bantamweight so he can resume his professional year. He hasn?t fought for some time; but, IBP accuses Brito of not accepting offered fights while Brito?s corner disagrees vehemently and has a choice of waiting until the Iron Boy contract lapses or taking the issue to the people?s court; in the meantime, Brito?s career is in limbo. ABNN hopes the issue will be resolved, pronto. HKG owner plans to enter 3 Fighters: Heavyweights Dionte Riggs, Arthur Shepard and 180 lb. Hard Knocks boxer Farid Ngoga in The 69th Annual Arizona Golden Gloves State Championships in Mesa, Arizona - 2/26, 2/27 and 2/28 at the Arizona Event Center for more information call 602-779-8536 or 480-779-7716 during normal business hours. Hard Knocks hopes to sponsor a smoker or two, next year which will be good news to the Arizona Boxing Community?.Arizona Boxing News & Notes was verbally jabbed for incorrectly identifying one HBO presentation as a PPV event when in reality it was an HBO Live presentation ?.sorry, too much moonshine! Retired Champ Relocates: Former WBC & WBA inter-continental middleweight champion Joachin ?Ti-Joa? Alcine 35-8-2 -21 knockouts retired in January of this year due to health reasons. I saw him fight once and even though he was beyond his prime, he schooled his much younger foe and sent him home with a loss and a lesson to follow upon. In his last fight, Alcine suffered a TKO loss at the hands of ranked middleweight contender Jermell Charlo in Houston. Doctors told the boxer to give up the sport or take a risk of losing his eye sight. Boxing is a sport of risk and that is why ABNN fights for the safety of all boxers, amateurs and professionals. ABNN is delighted to announce that the veteran pugilist (Haitian-Canadian) is living in Arizona and serving as a coach/trainer at Cross-Driven Boxing Academy in Gilbert, Arizona. Gym owner Edward Ochoa hopes the onetime stylish boxer can remain in Arizona and Alcine is taking proper legal steps to do so. Cross Driven will be represented by (5 boxers) at the 69th Annual Arizona State Golden State Championships in Mesa, Arizona at the Arizona Event Center. If you go, say hi to the champ. Alcine fought in 2014 at the Celebrity Theatre, Phoenix, Arizona and earned a TKO victory over young Jovan Ramirez ?..Until Next Time!
