IBF SUPERVISOR SAYS CONDES FIGHT WAS VERY CLOSE
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Tue, 17 Jul 2007
Lindsey Tucker, the IBF official who was supervisor at the minimum weight title fight between newly crowned champion Florante Condes and former champion Muhammad Rachman of Indonesia says it was a very close fight.
Tucker who admitted that there were "two errors on my part" made the corrections only when he noticed them on his return to the US. The errors in tabulation were noted on the the scorecards of Filipino judge Salven Lagumbay and Indonesian judge Muhammad Rois who scored the fight for their respective countrymen told Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today that he “thought it was a great fight and even though Condes scored two knockdowns he thought Rachman won most of the rounds.” However, Tucker made it clear that the mistakes were his and not the fault of the two judges.
In fact Tucker noted that if Thai judge Montol Suriyachand scored one of the last two rounds for Condes the fight would have ended in a draw and Rachman “would have retained his crown.”
Tucker said he “did not catch” the errors in the scorecards right away because he gave the official score sheet to the ring announcer to announce the scores. The iBF official said he was surrounded by the press and by the time he realized that the announcer “never gave me the score sheet back, everyone had left the (RCTI) studio” where the fight was held.
Tucker said he was able to get the score sheets back at 1:00 a.m. and left Jakarta early morning for the flight back to the US. He said “I did not look at the score sheet till I got home.” He said Rois’ score sheet “just didn’t sound right” and when he went over the score cards of the judges round by round discovered two mistakes. Rois’ score was actually 114-112 while Lagumbay’s score was not 114-112 as originally announced but in fact 115-111 for Condes. However, the IBF official noted “the error did not change the outcome of the fight.”
