SCHAEFER, ARUM TO FINALIZE OCTOBER CARD ON MONDAY By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Thu, 12 Jul 2007 Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer says he and Top Rank promoter Bob Arum will meet on Monday to “work out all the details” for the October 6 rematch between Filipino ring idol Manny Pacquiao and legendary Mexican Marco Antonio Barrera. Schaefer told Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today that “things are going well and it seems everyone is on board.” Barrera himself has indicated that a few details are still be worked out but was confident the fight will go on and has, in fact, begun to get into shape, determined to avenge the demolition he suffered in November 2003 in San Antonio, Texas. Schaefer believes that Barrera has a good chance against Pacquiao pointing out that whenever fight fans count him out the Mexican performs at his best. Schaefer referred to Barrera’s fights against flamboyant Naseem Hamed and the third fight in his classic trilogy against Erik “El Terrible” Morales which Barrera won. The Golden Boy CEO agreed with those who thought that the fight against Juan Manuel Marquez when Barrera lost his WBC super featherweight title was a close fight. Greg Leon of Boxing Talk quoted Schaefer as telling him that Barrera’s career “has been built on challenges and Barrera lives for these fights and these kind of big challenges.” Schaefer told Leon “ I think we will see Marco Antonio Barrera yet again turning back the clock to make everyone a believer.” In a previous interview with the respected site boxingscene.com Barrera said after his loss to Pacquiao that the second time it would be different because "I know what he can do and I know what I can do." Barrera said "the first time it was about competition, to be the best...this time it is about revenge. I will train very hard and I will be very prepared."
