Q & A WITH VIC SALUDAR

PhilBoxing.com

Filipino amateur standout and world title contender Vic Saludar (11-1-0, 9KO) will challenge WBO minimumweight champion Kosei Tanaka (5-0-0, 2KO) of Japan on New Year's eve, Dec. 31, at the Aichi Prefectural Gym in Nagoya, Japan.

Saludar, who leaves today for Japan, answers questions about this fight.

Q: How do you feel fighting under ALA Promotions?

(I'm happy. I'm thankful to my manager who helped me signed up with ALA Promotions.)

Q: Is it important to you to give your country a World title and to be the second fighter from ALA promotions to be a World Champion?

A: Opo.

(Yes. This is a big chance for me. This is the most important fight of my career because this is my dream and the reason why I turned pro. I want to be a world champion. I'll try to give honor to my country and this is big if I win representing the Philippines and becoming the second world champion of ALA Promotions.

(As a former national team standout, who do you prepare for your first world title fight?)

(I'm more focused on my training now because I know this is the biggest fight of my career.)

(Did you see the fight videos of Tanaka? Did you make any adjustments because of his style? What is your fight strategy?)

A: Opo.

(Yes. For me the adjustments will be done inside the ring. It depends on how he fights. My coach and I talked that I should always be in a position in front of him so I would always be ready to strike anytime and to make fast adjustments.)

(What do you think is your advantage or disadvantage against him?)

(From the videos I've seen, he doesn't have much power in his punches. I will focus on that weakness, I will try to catch him if there's an opening. At the same time, I'll have to be careful of his punches that sometimes come quickly.)

(How will this fight change you as a boxer?)

(This is a big chance for me. In boxing, not all had been given the chance to fight for a world title. I know I will become a better boxer after this experience. Thanks to all.)
