NO DISCLOSURE ON PACQUIAO’S PURSE FOR BARRERA REMATCH

PhilBoxing.com

With Top Rank’s Bob Arum out on what must be considered a much-needed vacation reportedly in Europe, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer has politely declined to discuss Filipino ring idol Manny Pacquiao’s purse from the October 6 rematch against Marco Antonio Barrera.

The fight will take place at the Mandalay Bay Resort Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and there have been speculations that Pacquiao was likely to get a purse of $5 million plus possibly a share of the pay-per-view rights,

There was also no word on the Philippine television and other ancillary rights which, in the past, have been awarded by the promoters to Pacquiao who in turn sold it to either ABS-CBN or in recent fights to Solar Sports for what was regarded as a record sum of P60 million.

Questions were also being asked as to what happens to the goodwill money given Pacquiao both by Golden Boy and Top Rank when he signed two separate contracts with the promoters. Oscar De La Hoya gave Pacquiao $500,000 which included a suitcase loaded with $250,000 in cash while Arum paid him $1 million in checks. Pacquiao attempted to return the money to De La Hoya after he signed the Top Rank contract but Golden Boy refused to accept the check since he had already filed a case against Arum for “tortuous interference” in his contract with Pacquiao.

Schaefer told Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today “these are certainly interesting questions but they should be answered by Manny and not by us.” Schaefer pointed to the “strict provisions in the settlement agreement where all parties agree not to discuss the settlement but rather move on with more constructive things such as putting together some of the biggest fights.”

Schaefer said how much Pacquiao gets paid “is really up to Manny to disclose if he would want to do so and not up to us” adding that he hoped we could appreciate “the sensitivity of the situation” and the desire to move forward in a positive manner.

Meantime, Pacquiao’s friend and confidant Rex “Wakee” Salud said Pacquiao didn’t leave as scheduled for Las Vegas on Tuesday for unknown reasons and he had no word on when the Filipino boxing icon would leave to reportedly compete in a poker tournament. Howeverm Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today learned that Pacquiao was playing poker at Casino Filipino near the airport overnight upto late Tuesday when he supposedly fell asleep and failed to show up for his flight.

Trainers Buboy Fernandez and Nonoy Neri who were scheduled to leave for the US with Pacquiao were both at the airport waiting in vain for Pacquiao.
