Metuda, Barcelona make weight

PhilBoxing.com

NEWLY-CROWNED World Boxing Federation Asia Pacific featherweight champion Rimar Metuda and his opponent veteran Jaime Barcelona both make their weight yesterday for their 10-rounder bout today (Nov. 27) at the San Andres Fishing Industries (SAFI) compound in Barangay Tambler in General Santos City.

Metuda submitted 128 pounds while Barcelona only tipped at 127 lbs.

Both fighters vowed to score a knockout. The 27-year old Metuda is still undefeated with eight straight fights and four knockouts with no loss or draw.

?Sa tingin ko kaya ko siya patumbahin. Pero hindi lang ako mag kumpiyansa kasi mas beterano siya,? Metuda said.

Metuda, a southpaw previously scored a 5th round technical knockout win against Jason Tinampay last September 26 at the Gaisano Mall Atrium of General Santos City to capture the vacant WBF Asia Pacific featherweight crown.

Metuda, however, will be facing for the first time a veteran like Barcelona, 37, who has a record of 38 wins but with 58 loses and 1 draw.

?Gagamtin ko ang pagka beterano ko laban sa kanya,? said Barcelona.

The native from Bukidnon fought but lost for the World Boxing Council (WBC) Asian Boxing Council featherweight title to Chonlatarn Piriyapinyo by a unanimous decision last January 2, 2009 in Bangkok, Thailand.

He also lost to Terdsak Kokietgym by a 9th round TKO at the City Hall Ground, Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand last October 4, 2005 for the vacant WBO Asia Pacific featherweight title.

The veteran boxer also lost the Philippine title-fight fight against Vinvin Rufino by a UD on March 25, 2009 at the Manila Hotel in Manila. Barcelona, however bounced back with several wins before he suffered again another setback ? a split decision loss to Bobby Pacquiao in Kidapawan.

The three other pairs seeing action in the undercard also made their respective weights.

Michael Angelo ?Magic Plania (7-0-0), also an undefeated boxer from Sanman Promotions, tipped the scales at 120 lbs. while his rival Ronerex Dalut (9-17-2) of Glan only submitted 118 lbs.

They will be fighting for 8 rounds.

The 18-year old Plania previously knocked out Roland Magluyan only in the first round last Sept. 26 at the Gaisano Mall Atrium of Gensan.

He also scored a unanimous decision against former Philippine Boxing Federation champion Philip Parcon last June 7 at the Robinson?s Mall Gensan.

Dalut, on the other hand, fought but lost for the vacant PBF super bantamweight title to John Vincent Moralde by a 2ndround technical knockout last July 2, 2014.

Dalut, however, bounced back with a split decision over Marvilo Aballe of MP Davao Gym held at the USEP Gym on January 31.

Another 8-rounder will pit undefeated Sanman boxer Raymart ?Gensan Assassin? Gaballo (11-0-0) against substitute Romulo ?Demon? Ramayan (6-5-3) of Valencia, Bukidnon.

Gaballo tipped at 115 lbs. while Ramayan was only 112 lbs.

The curtain raiser is a 6-rounder between Bimbo Nacionales (12-10-1) of Maasim, Sarangani Province and Michael Borja (6-14-1) of Gensan, who submitted 109 and 106 lbs., respectively.

The boxing card is a joint celebration of SAFI?s 44th anniversary and the 23rd birthday of Sanman Promotions CEO Jim Claude ?JC? Manangquil, who is probably the world?s youngest boxing promoter-manager.

SAFI?s Dexter ?Wang Yu? Tan is also the Chief Finance Officer of Sanman. ? LITO DELOS REYES
