TABUGON MAKES CONTRACTED WEIGHT EASY AS HERNANDEZ GOES OVER PhilBoxing.com Sat, 14 Nov 2015  San Luis Potosi, Mexico - Filipino fighter Raymond Tabugon easily made his contracted weight of 115 lbs. today even lower at 113.036 lbs.(51.32 kgs.) for his scheduled 10 round non-title fight with Mexican Juan "Churrritos" Hernandez Saturday 14th of November in this city. However, his Mexican opponent Hernandez didn't bother doing so as he went over the scales at 118.36 (53.8 kgs.) 3.36 lbs. over the said limit. When SANMAN Promotions adviser Chad Canares questioned the promotions and the local commission about the issue, the first answer he got was that there was no violation. "When I asked the commission about the contracted weight which was 115 lbs. right after the weight of Hernandez was announced, the officials told me that in Mexico it was okay to go over the limit since it was not a title fight. They also added that the fighter is allowed .500 kg. over the limit. That is still 2.26 lbs. over if that was the case," Canares said. "We all know the rules and we have contracts. Still, they insisted and stood by their word. I continued to ask the local commission regarding the matter, penalties and what not right after the official weigh-in and then they tell me that the fighter had two hours to make weight but that was after Hernandez had lunch. That was too late already and we all know it would be more difficult for him to make the weight then," added Canares. The SANMAN Promotions adviser discussed the matter with fighter Tabugon and the plan to protest but without hesitation Tabugon said "Let's just do this. I came here to box and will try all i can to win this fight," Tabugon said in his native tongue. "This is not right. But the fighter insisted to just go about the fight. I would have wanted us to do the right thing and insisted on it but Raymond Tabugon just wants to honor his contract to fight and earn his living," Canares shared. The official "MEXICO CONTRA EL MUNDO" weigh-in was held in a public park in San Luis Potosi, Mexico with boxing fans and curious on-lookers braving the rain. The event is a presentation of Promociones Del Pueblo of Oswaldo Kuchle and will be televised by Televisa Deportes. This is headlined by Adrian Estrella of Mexico and Orlen Padilla of Columbia.  |
