BLOCK BUSTER ADDED TO TGW & SMITHY BRING THE BIG FIGHTS 11 PhilBoxing.com Wed, 28 Oct 2015 ![]() Rice (L). Rising star Brent Rice faces his biggest career test taking on Fred Mundraby this Saturday. BRENT RICE FACES THE BIGGEST test of his fledgling career on Saturday night taking on Fred Mundraby in a four round super featherweight bout. Rice, who is undefeated in two bouts, was originally scheduled to meet Jemmy Gobel, but Gobel was forced to withdraw. The Rice vs Mundraby bout is set to be a massive draw card. Rice has been dubbed the golden boy on the Darling Downs while Mundraby is the pride of Cairns. Mundraby will bring outstanding credentials to the Garden City on Saturday night. His career record is seventeen fights, fifteen wins - 7 by knock out, two losses and one draw. He is a former Queensland and Australian Bantmanweight champion. He is the only other Queensland boxer besides Michael Katsidis to claim the State title in his professional debut. Mundraby's only two losses came at the hands of hot undefeated British prospect Kid Galahad in England for the Commonwealth title. Galahad has since gone to claim the IBF Youth World title. He also lost to Japan's Ryo Akaho in Tokyo for the OPBF belt. Akaho went on to fight for 2 World titles and win the WBO International title. "Fred Mundraby has the runs on the board," Fight promoter Brendon Smith said. "He's beaten the best in Queensland, he's beaten the best in Australia and he's fought internationally for major titles. "His last opponent was Kid Galahad for the Commonwealth title last year so he has a lot more experience than Brent Rice. "Brent is a young man with a big future and he wants to get to the level that Fred Mundraby is at now so this is a big test for him. "It's great we can show a fighter of Fred Mundraby's class in the garden city," Smith said. Brent Rice has turned plenty of heads in his first two pro bouts. A round one knock out win over Beau Callaghan and a four round points decision against the previously undefeated James Katz. "Fred Mundraby has had more international bouts than I've had career bouts," Rice said. "I have a huge amount of respect for him. "However this sort of challenge excites me. "Mundraby is well respected in Australian boxing so it would be a big thing for me if I could beat him. "This is my biggest test as a pro and I'm ready for it. "I need to be spot on and focus for every second of this four rounder because Fred has the class and the ability to make you pay if you lapse. "This is a big opportunity for me and I plan on making the most of it," Rice said. A huge thanks to one of our great sponsors THE VAULT ON RUTHVEN - they will host us all week!
