2 Davao pugs advance in semifinals PhilBoxing.com Wed, 28 Oct 2015 TWO young boxers from Davao City advanced into the semifinal round of the 2015 Batang Pinoy Mindanao Leg at the Osita Central Elementary School in Koronadal City. Light pinweight (48 kg.) John Ednoel Prevendido of Bacaca and light flyweight (50 kg.) Efrelan Loreto of Calinan are already both assured of at least a bronze medal. ?But we are really hoping to win the gold here in our first participation of the Batang Pinoy to get more support from the city,? said DC boxing team manager Renato ?Tata? Villafuerte, a barangay kagawad in Calinan. Prevendido continued his winning form by knocking out Chalder Abendamo in 37 seconds of the second round in the quarterfinals last Tuesday night. Prevendido connected a vicious left hook to send down his opponent at the corner. ?Nakita nako sa first round pa lang na kaya kaayo niya i-knockout kay naigo na niya sa body. Mao pagka second round gi ingnan nako siya na unahan nya pirme na,? said coach Jun Sagarino. Loreto, on the other hand, luckily earned a bye to advance into the semifinals. As of press time, Prevendido was still fighting Roremil Son Dakila of General Santos City while Loreto was facing against Eldo Jee Facularin of Cotabato Province. The winners will advance into the finals set today at 5 p.m. while all the semifinalists will also earn slots to the National Finals slated next month in Cebu City. If Prevendido, a son of an army technical sergeant, remains undefeated, he will next face the winner between the other semifinal bout between Iligan?s Britz Bryant Bado and Labangal-GSC?s Dhan Ariel Adolfo. And if Loreto, a younger brother of WBO world light flyweight champion Rey Loreto, also wins, he will next collide for the gold medal with the winner between Jayve Brand Mandigal of Cotabato Province and Kim Delmar Maganga of Labangal-GSC. ![]() |
