CHALLENGE TO THE MAX: Kris George to meet Dan Maxwelle on October 31

PhilBoxing.com

BIGGER, STRONGER AND HUNGRIER - That's what is now standing in front of Kris George for his return to the ring this Saturday. Indonesia's Heri Andriyanto has withdrawn from the fight and now Dan Maxwelle has stepped in to silence the Silencer at junior middle weight.

Maxwelle brings to town a wealth of experience, two New Zealand National titles and a resume against the who's who of Australasian boxing.

"I've seen Dan fight on a couple of occasions," Kris George said.

"He's a big strong guy and very durable.

"I will need to stay focused in this fight and being a bigger guy I can't be complacent.

"Opponent changes are tough but I'm looking forward to the challenge," George said.

Maxwelle is coming off a polished eight rounds points victory in his homeland earlier in the month. In his previous bout he went the distance with hot prospect Gunnar Jackson.

He's fought Jackson twice to date an both occasions he went the distance. Jackson is a WBO Oriental Champion and next month will make his American debut on a card in Las Vegas.

Maxwelle has built a reputation as the craftiest, most durable and best defensive fighter in Australasia. He's been stopped just 6 times in 42 fights and just once in his last thirteen. six of those thirteen opponents were undefeated.

"I'm fit, I'm hard and I'm ready to cause an upset," Maxwelle said.

"I respect Kris George but to be frank I've faced a lot better opponents than Kris George in my career.

"He likes to knock out people and I believe I'm extremely difficult to KO, so we will see what happens on Saturday night.

"I have no fear of Kris George," Maxwelle said.

It's literally a big challenge for Kris George. In his last bout in June he suffered his first defeat against Xu Chan at super light weight. Following that fight he made the decision to move up in weight in a move to better utilise his brute strength and power.

In training he's hitting harder than ever before and has been dropping sparring partners during his training camp at Craig Monagle's Trading Blows Gym.

"This is a big challenge for Kris George," Fight Promoter Brendon Smith said.

"Dan Maxwelle is a champion in New Zealand and proven against good opposition.

"Anyone who can go the distance with Gunnar Jackson s a good fighter.

"Dan has done it twice.

"Gunnar is World class and about to make his American debut and he couldn't stop Dan.

"Credit to Kris George - he always wants a challenge.

"He's got one in Dan Maxwelle," Smith said.
