PENALOSA: I WILL GIVE A FIGHT YOU'VE NEVER SEEN BEFORE
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Sun, 24 Jun 2007

Former world super flyweight champion Gerry Penalosa who leaves for Los Angeles on Tuesday to pick up the tempo of his training for his WBO bantamweight title fight against champion Jhonny Gonzalez of Mexico in Sacramento on August 11, sparred four rounds on Saturday and was pleased with his performance.
Penalosa sparred with former RP bantamweight champion who is currently rated No.2, Johnny Lear and No. 1 ranked featherweight Mike Farenas and said later ?I have to win and I will give a very good fight that you?ve never seen before? in the co-main event of the Philippines-Mexico World Cup at the Arco Arena in California. In the main event of the six-fight card emerging ring sensation, undefeated Rey ?Boom Boom? Bautista battles WBO super bantamweight champion Daniel Ponce De Leon who, in his last fight, won a controversial decision over Penalosa.
The 34 year old southpaw told Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today that Ponce De Leon was ?too big? and that his ideal weight was 118 pounds and he would prove this in his fight with Gonzalez.
Penalosa said he would probably stay at the Vagabond Inn instead of at good friend Manny Pacquiao?s apartment in an upscale neighborhood because at times "there were so many people" and he didn?t want any distractions while preparing for his title clash with Gonzalez.
Penalosa and Bautista together with Z ?The Dream? Gorres, AJ ?Bazooka? Banal, Bert Batawang and Philippine bantamweight champion Michael Domingo will all train at the Wild Card Gym under the celebrated two-time ?Trainer of the Year? Freddie Roach and outstanding Filipino trainer Edito ?Ala? Villamor from the famed ALA Gym of respected boxing patron Tony Aldeguer.
