Randy Gordon & Joe Higgins Ring 8 Guest Speakers Thursday night in New York PhilBoxing.com Thu, 22 Oct 2015 NEW YORK (Oct. 21, 2014) - Former New York State Athletic Commission chairperson and boxing radio show host, Randy "Commish" Gordon, and trainer Joe Higgins are scheduled to be this month's Ring 8 guest speakers tomorrow night (Thursday night, Oct. 22) at Plattduetsche Park Restaurant in Franklin Square, New York. Doors open 6 p.m. ET, food ($5.00 for Ring 8 members) will be served at 7 p.m., and the meeting starts at 8 p.m. Gordon is a highly respected boxing journalist and historian who served as Editor-in-Chief for The Ring and Boxing Illustrated magazines, as well as Associate Editor of World Boxing Magazine, International Boxing Magazine, and the Big Book of Boxing. He currently co-hosts two national boxing shows on SiriusXM Satellite - Fight Club and Friday Night at the Fights -- with former world heavyweight contender Gerry Cooney. Higgins, of Freeport (NY), trains amateur and professional boxers including NABO and WBC Continental Americas light heavyweight champion Sean Monaghan (26-0, 16 KOs), who is ranked among the top 8 175-pound fighters in the world: WBA #4, IBF #6, WBC #7 and WBO 8. A retired New York firefighter, Higgins will be accompanied by two of his prot?g?s at the Ring 8 meeting, before they travel the following day to compete in Pathway to the Glory Olympic Trials III in Memphis, Tennessee. Higgins, who also trains pro prospect and former amateur star Patrick "All" Day, is the former coach of the US Metros amateur boxing team in New York. Ring 8's co-winner of the 2015 Cut-man of the Year award, George Mitchell, will once again be present to answer any and all questions about cuts. "This is our Octoberfest meeting," Ring 8 president Bob Duffy said. "Our host, Plattduetsche Park Restaurant, will be serving delicious German food from its famous menu. We're also fortunate to have such great speakers. Randy is an expert on a wide variety of subjects in boxing. Joe is one of the best trainers of local pro and amateur boxers, while George is always open to answering questions from members about his very important job in the corner." ![]() |
