NBA -- Pelicans rally from 20 down to upset Bulls By Kevin Gonzalez PhilBoxing.com Thu, 15 Oct 2015 ![]() CHICAGO -- Anthony Davis and the New Orleans Pelicans erased a 20-point deficit to beat the Chicago Bulls, 123-115, Monday night at the United Center. New Orleans All-Star Forward and Chicago native Anthony Davis started the game strong, scoring 22 of his 26 points in only the first half. Despite Davis' efforts, however, the Pelicans still trailed by 12 at half time. With only 8 points and his team behind, Tyreke Evans came out the half aggressive to help the Pelicans outscore the Bulls 37-24 in the 3rd quarter. New Orleans continued their aggression to again outscore Chicago 32-25 and eventually win the game. Evans finished the night with 18 points, only missing 3 of his 10 field goal attempts. Newly signed guard Sean Kilpatrick and veteran Ryan Anderson combined for 41 points to lead New Orleans? second unit and together, they hit 7 of 13 three-pointers and pulled 11 rebounds to support the New Orleans comeback. Chicago All-star Jimmy Butler, the 2014-2015 most improved player, struggled throughout the game, missing 11 of his 13 shots, producing a meager 8 points. Nikola Mirotic also struggled offensively, only managing to hit 2 of his 8 shots to finish with 9 points. Rookie Bobby Portis had another big game off the bench for Chicago, hitting 8 of his 12 shots, grabbing 11 boards, knocking down 2 three-pointers and blocking 3 shots. When asked about how he matched up with Anthony Davis, Portis said, ?I liked it a lot, you know. He taught me a lot. He?s a long defender and that?s something I can really hone into. Players that are bigger than me, that block shots, that alter shots, that?s something I love because that?s what?s going to make me a better player.? Chicago forward Doug McDermott also continued his stellar pre-season play, scoring 17 points and 8 rebounds in 29 minutes of play. Mike Dunleavy, Joakim Noah, Derrick Rose, and Taj Gibson were out for the Bulls while Omer Asik, Norris Cole, Quincy Pondexter, and Alexis Ajinca were all inactive for the Pelicans.
