GERVONTA ?TANK? DAVIS REFLECTS ON HIS FIRST ROUND TKO WIN IN LAS VEGAS

PhilBoxing.com

Davis added another quick stoppage to his record by defeating Recky Dulay on the Mayweather-Berto undercard at the MGM Grand Garden Arena during Mexican Independence Day Weekend.

BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, U.S.A. ? On Saturday night, September 12, 2015, super featherweight professional boxer, Gervonta "Tank" Davis (Baltimore, Maryland/12-0-0, 11 KOs) made quick work of Recky ?The Terror? Dulay (Philippines/8-2-0, 5 KOs) on the Mayweather Promotions card titled ?High Stakes,? held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. During the opening round, Davis knocked Dulay down twice with left hands to the head. Immediately following the second knock down, Dulay signaled to referee Russell Mora that he didn?t want to continue, forcing Mora to call a halt to the action at 1:34 of the first round. Davis-Dulay was originally scheduled for eight rounds, but was moved to a six-round fight on the day of the fight to accommodate the Showtime televised broadcast. In the main event, Floyd ?Money? Mayweather defeated Andre Berto by unanimous decision.

Gervonta Davis discussed his win in Las Vegas. He said, "It feels great to be 12-0. I enjoyed myself this past week, being in Las Vegas, and fighting on the biggest stage in boxing. It was great meeting so many boxing fans all week long during Mexican Independence Day Weekend. I wasn?t looking for the knockout during my fight. My team had a great game plan, and we had planned to go into the late rounds, but my opponent wasn?t able to handle my power. I landed a few shots, and then he didn?t want to fight anymore. At this point, I?m ready to take a step up to the next level in competition. I want to keep challenging myself so that I?ll be ready to fight for a title. Now that Floyd Mayweather is stepping away from boxing, he is passing all his knowledge on to me, so that I can be ?The One.? Floyd believes in me, and he knows I have put in work to continue doing what he did. I have a strong team around me, and I?m ready for the challenge. I?ve been boxing for over 12 years. I believe in myself and I don?t see anyone in my division that can beat me. Thank you to my team, Floyd Mayweather and Mayweather Promotions, Al Haymon, Yekim, Nike Boxing, Athlete Performance Solutions, Rich Brand, and Ethika. Keep supporting me, and I'll fight for you."
Davis? longtime boxing coach, Calvin Ford (Upton Boxing Center), said, "Tank performed well and executed the game plan that we worked on during our training camp. As his coach, I wanted him to get more rounds in during the fight to give him more ring experience. We?ll ask for another upgrade in competition and then evaluate where we are after our next challenge. We plan to stay in the gym, and I?d like to see him stay busy. We appreciate everybody that is getting behind our team. Gervonta is a special fighter, and I believe he?s ready for the big time. I am very proud of him, and he?s becoming a great example of success for young people in Baltimore. We appreciate Floyd Mayweather, his staff, and his coaches for welcoming us into their family and treating us like family. They made the transition easy for us to train in Las Vegas, and we really appreciate that. We are looking forward to bigger and better things for Gervonta Davis.?
Floyd Mayweather said, ?Gervonta won in spectacular fashion once again. If he keeps working hard, sky is the limit. I keep reminding him that he needs to stay focused, and great things will happen for him. He is a big part of our plans going forward at Mayweather Promotions.?
