JACA-RAHIMOV SHOWDOWN SET IN MOSCOW
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Mon, 11 Jun 2007
Filipino Jimrex 'The Executioner' Jaca will defend his WBO Asia Pacific superfeatherweight on June 30 against unbeaten Russian Alisher Rahimov at the Olympisky Sport Hall in Moscow, Russia.
The 12-round fight will also stake the vacant IBF Intercontinental superfeatherweight crown.
The bout will be on the undercard of the Dmitri Kirilov-Ricardo Vargas IBF superflyweight championship, which interests Filipino promoter Sammy Gello-ani.
"It's good thing i will be able to watch the Kirilov-Vargas fight, that way i can see their styles," said Gello-ani, who plans to promote a possible fight between Z 'The Dream' Gorres against the winner of the Kirilov-Vargas showdown.
Jaca will be defending his title for the first time since wresting it from Indonesian Simson Butar-Butar with a seventh-round knockout last February 24 in Cebu City.
Meanwhile, IBF championship chairman Lindsey Tucker has advised Gorres to petition the winner of the Kirilov-Vargas fight for a choice defense, or wait for the eliminator that will decide on who gets the mandatory status.
Tucker said four months after June 30, the new champion is due for a mandatory, and Gorres can then position himself for an eliminator.
First step would be for Gorres to win his next bout set for August 11 at the 'World Cup' of boxing Mexico versus Philippines to be held at the Arco Arena in Sacramento, California.
