DONAIRE TO OPEN TRAINING CAMP FOR QUIGG TITLE FIGHT NEXT WEEK

PhilBoxing.com

Five division world champion Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire (35-3, 23 KO?s) will open his training camp for his planned title fight against Scott Quigg of Britain next week, in Las Vegas.

In an overseas telephone conversation with the New Standard/boxingmirror.com from his home in Las Vegas, Donaire said his father/trainer ?Dodong? Donaire will arrive in Las Vegas to begin preparation and that he has already lined up three sparring partners.

Donaire believes that ?with the right strategy, the fight (against Quigg) will be easier? although he did concede that the champion is strong.

Donaire said he ?feels good? and insisted ?I?m back and this fight is going to be great.?

?The Filipino Flash? is coming off comfortable back-to-back stoppage wins against comparatively mediocre opponents, the last being a 2nd round TKO win over European champion Anthony Settoul of France in Macau last July after Donaire connected with a huge right hand and dropped Settoul whose corner had seen enough and threw in the towel since the Frenchman had also been dropped twice in the opening round.

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum who has returned to the US after a vacation in the Bahamas and Spain and conversations with Matchroom Sport in London told us ?we have an understanding and hopefully we will put it (the Quigg fight) to bed next week.?

Arum disclosed that Peter Musngi, a consultant for sports of ABS-CBN was interested in staging the Donaire-Quigg fight in Dubai ?live? where there is a huge market of both Filipinos and expats from Britain and that promoter Barry Hearn had given him the terms that would be acceptable, otherwise the fight would be held in Manchester, England on November 21.

Arum earlier told Steve Kim, news editor of boxingscene.com that he would ?wait till the weekend to see whether ?an offer from a Dubai group comes through which would mean more money, otherwise the fight will be staged in England.?

WBA bantamweight champion Quigg who is undefeated with a record of 31-0-2 with 23 knockouts electrified the Manchester Arena with a dynamic 2nd round knockout of Kiko Martinez last July and earned the respect that has apparently been denied him so far.
