DESPITE APPARENTLY BEING GIVEN THE RUNAROUND PARRENAS VOWS TO DO HIS BEST IN INTERIM TITLE FIGHT

PhilBoxing.com

Parrenas.

Despite being given the runaround by promoter Tuto Zabala Jr in his WBO super flyweight Interim title fight against Mexico?s David Carmona which was initially supposed to take place on June 20 but was postponed to June 27 and then again to July 4, WBO Oriental champion Warlito ?Cowboy? Parrenas has vowed to do his best and win ?for my family, my country and supporters.?

Parrenas arrived in Manila from Tokyo on Tuesday evening so he could obtain his visa to Mexico since it's reportedly much less of a hassle here.

He has to return to Tokyo after he acquires his visa since he, British trainer Warren Evison and Japanese trainer Hero Bando who once fought undefeated Edwin Valero, are set to leave for Mexico on June 29.

However, another unnecessary problem Parrenas has to resolve is that the spelling of his name on his airline ticket to Mexico was incorrect.

Parrenas who told the New Standard/boxingmirror.com he hopes the promoter is not playing games with him just like the initial postponement of the fight date which drew a remark from WBO president Francisco ?Paco? Valcarcel who said he didn?t want any further delays.

In response to questions from us, Zabala Jr said ?nothing here has been done with bad intentions? as he explained how hard it is to promote an interim title fight in the smaller weight divisions. We also had a conflict with the date because of TV commitments and for this reason we had to postpone the fight for only two weeks.?

Before he arrived in Manila, Parrenas had his last sparring when he went six rounds with tough and talented former Oriental Pacific Boxing Federation champion Takuya Kogawa with Parrenas describing the 30 year old Japanese as ?strong, someone who hits hard and is resilient.?

He said the sparring with Kogawa helped ?develop my stamina because he was very fast and threw a lot of punches.?

Kogawa who is also preparing for an upcoming fight has a record of 23-4 with 13 knockouts and counts among his victims former WBC world champion Sonny Boy Jaro in a ten round bout on April 7, 2013.

Evison believes that Parrenas who is ?going through vigorous training with altitude masks and also does some hard work on the punch-mitts in a gameplan to put pressure on his opponent.?
Parrenas didn?t underestimate Carmona who, he said, ?is a good boxer with speed and technique but has no power? and that could make the difference as the world No. 1 has an impressive record of 21 knockouts in 24 wins with 6 losses while the No. 2 ranked Carmona has a record of 19-2-4 with 8 knockouts.
