KOBE PARAS SLAMS HIS WAY TO FIBA U18 WORLD SLAM DUNK FINAL FOUR

Paras.

Defending Under 18 FIBA Slam Dunk champion Kobe Paras slammed his way to the final four of the eagerly-awaited competition in Hungary topping the two rounds with a total of 28 points which was also shared by Jalek Felton of the United States and Agustin Da Costa of Uruguay.

While competitors from Romania and Egypt tried to elevate over advertising boards Nike and Wilson respectively, Paras effortlessly slammed one home in his first attempt in round one and left the best for the deciding second round.

Paras, soared high over two teammates to rattle the rim with a spectacular dunk to draw cheers from the fans at the open court in Hungary and obliged with a short jig.

Kobe?s Dad, former PBA superstar who in his first year in the pro league in 1979 became the first player to win both ?Rookie of the Year? and ?Most Valuable Player? honors was obviously happy over his son?s showing and is hoping he can repeat his spectacular victory in Jakarta two years ago.

Kobe?s feat in qualifying for the final four helped make up for the ouster of our Under 18 3x3 team which lost to Urugay and bowed out of the competition with a 2 win, 3 loss card having beaten host nation Hungary and Kazakhstan but lost close games to Poland and Uruguay but were badly beaten by the big, strong Russians who pushed their weight around and even threw a punch at one of the RP players but wasn?t ejected or even penalized as they coasted to a 21-9 victory.

In its final game against the taller and tougher Uruguay squad the young Filipinos failed despite a gallant effort and lost 13-19.

The RP boys at one point trailed by as much as seven points but the rugged Mike Nieto battled his bigger defenders and got a couple of baskets with an additional free throw on fouls to claw back to within three points at 10-13.

The Uruguayans then put on the defensive pressure and outmuscled the comparatively small Filipinos inside to settle the score with a 19-13 triumph.
