JAYSON VELEZ WINS A HARD FOUGHT 10 ROUNDER OVER DANIEL RAMIREZ

PhilBoxing.com

LOS ANGELES -- Tonight at the monthly LA Fight Club fights at the Belasco Theater in downtown LA shown live on FoxSportsNetwork1, undefeated Jayson Velez of Juncos, Puerto Rico (23-0-1, 16 KO) kept his winning ways via a hard fought 10 rounder over Daniel Ramirez of Tijuana, MX. (11-3-0, 5 KO).

Velez (top photo) came in as a heavy favorite and although he won via a wide margin over the scrappy Mexican, it appears at times that he was being extended almost to his limits. Ramirez, in spite of being less experienced, fought his heart out- ?damn the defense, you hit me, I hit you?.

Velez scored a flash knockdown early in round 2 but could not follow-up and put away Ramirez. But he went on and dominated Ramirez all through out the 10 round fight.

Scores were 99-90, 98-91 and 98-91.

In the co-main event (above photo), Carlos Morales (9-1-3, 3KO) of the Highland Park district in LA, scored a well earned unanimous decision over Emmanuel Gonzales of Bronx, New York (14-2-0, 7KO). Morales won by being more aggressive and excellent control of the ring. The scores were 80-72,78-74 and 77-75.

In the first televised fight, another local favorite, Christian ?Chimpa? Gonzalez (10-0-0, 9KO) beat Darryl Hayes of Houston, Texas (3-5-0-1KO) via a unanimous decision.

Hayes was warned a couple of times for excessive holding and he was finally penalized a point in Round 2 and again in Round 6 for holding on to the head of Gonzales.

Scores were 60-62,60-52 and 59-53.

In the curtain raiser, Pablo Rubio of Whittier, CA made a successful pro debut by twice knocking down a fellow debutant, Julio Unami of Ensenada, Baja California, Mx. Rubio and stopped him at 2:16 of round 1.

In the TV swing bout, Rafael Gramajo of Los Angeles (4-1-1,2KO) won via a unanimous decision over Pablo Cupul of Merida, Mx. (4-17-0,3KO). Scores were all 40-36.
