HISTORIC BOUT - Jack Asis to take on Indonesian Hero on June 27

PhilBoxing.com

IBO World Champion Jack Asis will take on Indonesia's Hero Tito in the Garden City on June 27.

IBO SUPER FEATHERWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPION JACK ASIS will make history when he takes on Hero Tito on the TGW & Smithy Bring the Big Fights 10 card at Rumours International on June 27.

"I believe it will be the first time a current World champion will fight in Toowoomba," Asis's Trainer/Manager Brendon Smith said.

"On many occasions we've had future World champions and past World champions fight here but I don't think we've ever had a reigning champion fight here.

"This is a big occasion and one Jack requested.

"I had interest in fights further abroad both in Australia and overseas but Jack wanted this one in his adopted home town.

"He's very parochial about Toowoomba."

Asis explained why he wanted this bout in Toowoomba as opposed to chasing bigger riches.

"I see this as being the most special fight of my career," Asis said.

"First of all this night is all about my great friend Brayd Smith so I strongly asked Sir Brendon for the chance to fight here on June 27.

"Big thanks to sir for making this happen for me.

"It means so much to me, Brayd was a great friend, a great sparring partner and a great man who did a lot to help me ever since I moved to Toowoomba.

"The second reason this fight is so special is because I believe I owe Toowoomba so much.

"The way Toowoomba has embraced me has been amazing.

"This is home to me and my family and we have so many friends here now.

"By having my first fight as World champion here on June 27, is one way I can say thank you to them."

While this a great 'sentimental fight' Asis has a job to do on June 27.

By choosing to forego other opportunities it makes this bout with Indonesia's Hero Tito a must win.

"No problem mate," Asis said with his trademark grin.

"Every fight for the last 3 years has been a must win for me really.

"Hero is going to be tough and I understand he has everything to gain.

"He will want to come here and beat me and make a statement to the rest of the World.

"However, as I said before this fight is very very important to me, so I don't want to lose.

"I'm training as hard as ever, I'm as focused as ever and I badly want a win on June 27.

"Showtime is coming so I need to concentrate on training with my team." Asis said.

Hero Tito, of Indonesia, is coming off a tough ten rounder in China on February 22 - the same card that featured Toowoomba duo Josh Baillie and Steven Spark.

"I watched Hero fight closely on that night," Brendon Smith said.

"That night he fought a ten rounder against one of China's rising prospects for the WBC Eurasia Pacific Boxing Council featherweight title and the WBA Asian Boxing Council feather weight title.

"Hero lost the fight by unanimous decision but he was more than competitive in the fight and at times looked as though he would score a knock out.

"He has good hands, he's very durable and he's a perfect test for Jack I believe.

"He's fought some good quality fighters in his career.

"He went the distance with the undefeated Ik Yang who is 13-0 and he defeated Roy Mukhlis who was 26-2 before the bout.

"In just his ninth bout he beat Eddy Comaro by decision over twelve rounds to win the Indonesian Super Featherweight title.

"Toowoomba fans would remember Eddy from his bouts here against former two time World champion Michael Katsidis and dual State champion Darren Askew.

"Hero, comes here with a golden opportunity.

"He can return to Indonesia a hero if he can beat our World Champion Jack Asis.

"It's a great fight for Toowoomba fans." Smith said.
