LATE SUBSTITUTE TOMOGDON KNOCKED OUT IN WBC TITLE FIGHT
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Wed, 03 Jun 2015

Late substitute Gerry Tomogdan of the Philippines was stopped in the 9th round by Thailand?s World Boxing Council minimum weight champion Wanheng Menayothin in Bangkok on Tuesday.
The undefeated Menayothin dominated the fight from the opening bell and built up a substantial lead before a left hook to the body in the 9th round put Tomogdan down to end the one-sided fight.
Tomogdan who dropped to 17-6-3 with 9 knockouts was a late replacement for Yung Kil Bae who suffered an injury in early May and had to call off his title shot against the undefeated 29 year old Thai who improved his record to 38-0 with 13 knockouts.
Menayothin won the title with a 9th round stoppage of Oswaldo Novoa of Mexico last November and successfully defended his title with a twelve round decision over another Filipino Jeffrey Galero who was unbeaten but clearly over-matched.
Tomogdan who won the Philippine Boxing Federation title with a majority ten round decision over Joey Canoy last January 12 followed it up with a 10th round TKO over Rodel Tejares on February 18 and a split draw against Crison Omayao last April 16 before facing Menayothin in his first title fight.
Tomogdan was rated No. 1 in the Games and Amusements Board rankings ending March 31 but was not rated in the top ten of any of the major world boxing organizations.
