No KO needed but Milan has to impress every round to win in Mexico per trainer

PhilBoxing.com

Milan Melindo?s coach does not necessarily believe that his ward will need a knockout to win in enemy territory this Saturday against IBF World Light Flyweight champion Javier Mendoza.

Edito ?Ala? Villamor, who is ALA Boxing?s chief trainer, prefers that Melindo (32-1, 12 KOs) comes out strong after every round against Mendoza (23-2-1, 19 KOs) who will be fighting in front of his hometown fans and supporters in Mexico.

?Hindi kailangan ng KO sir para manalo. Kung may darating na pagkakataon mas ok. Pero kailangan niya to win impressively in every round,? Villamor told Philboxing.com.

(We don?t need a KO to win. If an opportunity for a knockout comes, that?s better but he needs to win impressively in every round.)

Melindo according to Villamor is at his best condition due to the hard work that his boxer invested in his training for another shot at a world title. Melindo lost to WBO and WBA champ, Juan Francisco Estrada in 2013 in his first attempt at a world championship belt. That fight was at flyweight at 112 pounds.

Melindo will be fighting Mendoza for a light flyweight world belt at 107 pounds Saturday (Sunday in the Philippines) at Campo Nuevo Ensenada in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico.

?Doble ang pag-ensayo ni Milan. Grabe ang dedication niya. His condition is the best ever.?

(Milan trained doubly. His dedication is relentless. His condition is the best ever.)

Team Melindo spent the bulk of their training camp in Los Angeles where Melindo honed both his ring skills and strength and conditioning.

The challenger out of Cagayan de Oro and Cebu City sparred and trained at the Wildcard Gym of Freddie Roach for two months. He logged in more than a hundred rounds of sparring against five spar mates from the gym. He sparred twice with fellow Pinoy, John Mark Apolinario and fighters from Mexico, Japan and Australia according to Villamor.

Melindo also trained hard under the tutelage of Strength and Conditioning Coach, Nick Curson who took care of the boxer?s physical build-up and strength improvement with his variety of exercise regimen.

?Maganda ang strength and conditioning niya. Maganda ang ibinigay na mga training program ni Curson ke Milan,? said Villamor.

(His strength and conditioning is superb. Curson laid out a great training program for Milan.)

Melindo and Villamor were accompanied in Mexico by ALA Boxing head Mike Aldeguer, Alex Consigna while Edmund Villamor will be their cutman.
