GESTA TO SEE ACTION IN PACQUIAO-SOTO CARD
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Wed, 16 May 2007
Reports coming out of the United States have it that undefeated but inactive featherweight prospect Mercito 'Guerrero' Gesta is now slated to see action on the big June 9 Top Rank card at the Madison Square Garden in New York.
Sources have not yet revealed the name of the opponent, although it has been indicated that the 19-year-old fighter has been training religiously under the watchful eyes of his manager Terry Lee Carter in Georgia, USA.
Gesta had been booked to fight twice in the US this year, but both schedules went off, rendering the 10-0-1, 3 KO's Gesta inactive so far this year and the entire 2006.
Gesta's comeback fight will fall on the undercard of the Bobby Pacquiao-Humberto Soto scrap, which should be a thriller should the Filipino fighter come out in terrific shape against the Mexican, who is groomed by Top Rank honcho Bob Arum as a possible Manny Pacquiao foe.
The main event pits world champ Miguel Cotto against super-fighter Zab Judah.
Gesta, a sweet-punching dynamo, is a natural warrior with smooth movements and tremendous lateral skills, making him one of the country's top prospects.
