Batawang Says He Can Wait for Title Chance By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Wed, 16 May 2007 World-ranked Bert Batawang yesterday said he was not at all bothered by the cancellation of his May 26 IBF eliminator fight, indicating that he trusts his manager Sammy Gello-ani to find the next best option for him as he aims to inch closer to a world title fight within the year. In an interview yesterday, Batawang said he will continue to train at the ALA Gym daily as has been his schedule, and will continue to keep himself in shape as he knows that sooner or later, he will be up for a bigger bout either in the country or in the United States. When told by his manager that the May 26 card is off, Batawang merely shrugged it off as being part of boxing, and that he fully trusts his manager can find another fight for him soon. Batawang, one of the hardest-punching junior flyweights today, was slated to face Mexican Francisco Rosas in a 12-round IBF eliminator on May 26, but the card had to be shelved after main event fighter Joan Guzman injured himself while training for the fight with Michael Katsidis for the WBO lightweight crown. Gello-ani indicated that he is still studying possilble options for Batawang, which includes bringing the fight here in the Philippines, or getting word from their promoter Golden Boy Promotions for a possible inclusion of the Batawang-Rosas bout in any of their future cards in the United States. "Whatever Sir Sammy tells me to do, I'm ready to fight whoever is put in front of me," said Batawang. "I know my manager is always there to look for the big opportunities," he added.
