DE LA HOYA INVITES RUDY SALUD!
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Sat, 28 Apr 2007
The Golden Boy Oscar De la Hoya has extended a special invitation to the highly-respected founding WBC secretary-general Atty. Rudy Salud for the latter to be at ringside on May 5 for his super-bout with the other-worldly Floyd Mayweather Jr. at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
"On May 5th the whole world will be watching the biggest fight of my career. I will defend my WBC super welterweight title against the Pound for Pound best fighter in the world, Floyd Mayweather Jr.," De la Hoya said in his letter to Rudy Salud.
"As one of the founding fathers of the WBC, and one of the most influential boxing authorities in the Philippines, I would like to personally commend you in your extraordinary career. You have served our beautiful sport of boxing with dedication and passion," De la Hoya added. "Alongside my family, I would like to have you present ringside, as my personal guest."
Meanwhile, both De la Hoya and Mayweather easily passed the WBC-mandated safety seven-day weigh-in set today in Puerto Rico and Las Vegas.
Going up the scale in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico and supervised by the Puerto Rico Boxing Commission President Jose Penagaricano, De La Hoya came in at 158 pounds. "I'm ready and eagerly awaiting the sound of the bell," De la Hoya announced.
In the Las Vegas offices of Dr. Robert Voy, Mayweather also stepped onto the scales with Dr. Cary Logan witnessing and came in at a tremendous 150 pounds. "Nothing left to say. I am in tremendous shape and ready to go."
The bout is set at the super-welterweight limit of 154 lbs.
