PACQUIAO?S TRAINING GOING STRONG AFTER TWO WEEKS

PhilBoxing.com

LOS ANGELES ? ?Very good!?

This was Filipino boxing hero Manny Pacquiao?s quick answer when asked how his two weeks of preparation for his welterweight unification encounter with unbeaten Floyd Mayweather on May 2 went since pitching camp here a fortnight ago.

?I believe we?ve met our target in our first two weeks of our camp here in Los Angeles. It was a good two weeks?, Pacquiao told this writer after his routine training regimen at the Wild Card Gym Saturday. ?We started the camp early March and everything went well, except that we missed Freddie (chief trainer Freddie Roach) for a while, but were prepared for that because we knew that from the very start, so we were able to provide some contingencies.?

Pacquiao was referring to his regular roadwork held alternately at the mountainous Griffith Park (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) and the flat Pan pacific Park (Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday) plus doing the mitts with assistant trainer Buboy Fernandez and, lately, Roach.

?The camp is very good and running smoothly,? he assured. ?I cannot ask for more, thank God.?

?This, despite struggling early on due to our travel preparations from General Santos City where we started our training at least for a week,? he said. ?Lahat nga tayo nagsimula na may jetlag noong mga ilang araw, pero naman ng paraan para maka-recover?

?When Freddie finally arrived early this week, everything went as scheduled na, kaya tuloy-tuloy na. We have accomplished everything we planned to accomplish as planned in that span,? the 36-year-old World Boxing Organization welterweight belt-holder, who is battling the unblemished 47-0 win-loss record holder in what is dubbed as ?Fight of the Century, assured.

?Even the requirements imposed by the Nevada Athletic Commission, like the eye checkup and blood testing nagawa na nating noong Wednesday,? he said. ?Early this morning, nakunan na rin ako uli ng dugo and urine para sa required initial drug-testing.?

?And I believe I can pass all those tests. Wala naman tayong nararamdamang masama sa katawan, kaya tuloy-tuloy lang ang ensayo mara ma-meet natin ang kondisyong kailangan para makapagbigay tayo ng kasiyahan sa fans,? he said.

The next five weeks prior to proceeding to Las Vegas on April 27, he said, will be crucial as it will entail, not only how he will be made physically, mentally and spiritually fit and competitive but, likewise, finalizing their game plans and strategies.

?Our game plans are ready, we, Freddie, members of the training team Buboy (Fernandez), Haplas (Roger Fernandez) and Nonoy (Neri), myself and even Marvin (Somodio),? Pacquiao disclosed. ?It?s now only a matter of executing them with somebody opposing me in the ring.?

Sparring, he said, will definitely start Tuesday with a still unnamed partner chosen by Roach.
