FANTASTIC FRAMPTON STOPS AVALOS IN FIVE

PhilBoxing.com

IBF super-bantamweight champion Carl Framnpton scored a fantastic five round stoppage of mandatory American challenger Chris Avalos in what Sky Sports described as ?five fearsome rounds in front of a packed and passionate crowd at Odyssey Arena in Belfast.?

Frampton's right was awesome and although Avalos gamely came forward and occasionally caught Franpton, the Irishman dominated the fight most of the way before referee Howard Foster had no choice but to step in and call a halt.

The opening round was a feeling out round for Frampton before the champion nailed Avalos with a solid left-right combination in the second and after Avalos appeared tom hurt his right shoulder in round three the tide turned decidedly in favor of Frampton.

The fans were on their feet in round four when Avalos went down but it was correctly ruled a push as the American appeared confused as Frampton caught him with a big left in round five followed by a hook which opened up ASvalos for the stinging right hands of Frampton.

Sky Sports said ?It was fast and harsh and it was one of the numerous straight rights that proved the decider, this one landing right on the temple as Avalos tried to get out of the way. Avalos was in trouble, stunned by the latest blow, wobbled on his feet and was finally a sitting target. A barrage of shots came raining in and again it was that simple straight right that again landed time after time. The American did swing the odd shot back in the space of a few seconds but Frampton closed in cruelly forcing Foster to step in and save a bemused and beaten challenger from any more punishment.?

Frampton in a post fight interview said "To be honest it was pretty easy. After the first round I knew I had him. He was slow, very slow. I think I hurt him with a right hand and wobbled him. He was still on his feet, so you have to give him credit."

Looming on the distant horizon as possible challengers are undefeated Filipinos Genesis Servania who i s ranked No. 1 by the WBO and Prince Albert Pagara who is ranked No. 7 by the IBF, although Frampton?s handlers are looking at a title fight against WBA champion and fellow Brit Scott Quigg.

Servania gave Quigg a rough time in a torrid sparring session at Freddie Roach?s Wild Card Gym sometime early last year.
