PAYPA LOSES BY 1ST ROUND TKO IN OPBF TITLE FIGHT
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Sun, 01 Mar 2015
The 16 fight winning streak of Filipino 21 year old Jimmy Paypa came to a screeching halt when he suffered a 1st round TKO at the hands of Oriental Pacific Boxing Federation super bantamweight champion Shingo Wake of Japan on Friday at the famed Korakuen Hall in Tokyo.
Wake who was making his fifth title defense, caught Paypa with a right left combination that dropped him and although the Filipino youngster beat the count it was clear that he was in no position to continue and the referee wisely stopped the fight with one second to go in the round.
With the win the 27 year old Wake improved to 18?4-2 with 11 knockouts while Paypa dropped to 16-3-1 with 6 knockouts.
Wake who won the title when Yukinori Oguni retired in the 10th round on March 10, 2013 also successfully defended the OPBF title with a 2nd round knockout over Filipino Jovylito Aligares on February 10, 2014 after he won by a 3rd round TKO over Jhunriel Ramonal on October 14, 2013.
In his last fight on July 21, 2014 Wake won by a 10th round TKO over South Korea?s Jaesung Lee.
At the time of the fight Wake was eabked Bo. 3 vy the WBC, No, 2 by the WBA, No. 6 by the IBF and No.15 by the WBO.
