SONSONA RETAINS RP CROWN
By Epifanio M. Almeda PhilBoxing.com Sun, 22 Apr 2007
Philippine Super-flyweight champion Eden Sonsona retained his crown with a 10th round technical decision with scores of 95-94 and 96-93 twice. The fight was stopped after an accidental clash of heads opened a deep cut on challenger Marvin Tampus which forced the referee to call it a night.
The fight was a give and take delighting the crowd. Tampus appeared to land the heavier blows to the body but could not sustain his attack. Sonsona then dish his own combinations to the head and body.
In the supporting LUZPROBA championship bouts:
Nino Suelo won by unanimous decision over Sherwin Manatad by the scores of 97-92, 99-90 and 100-89 in their flyweight fight.
The super-bantamweight fight between Ariel Delgado and Edgar Gabejan ended in a technical draw at 2' 07" in round two after Delgado was declared unfit to continue following a clash of heads which opened a cut above his left eyebrow.
Super-flyweight Richard Olisha won by split decision over Arman Casa. The scores were 96-94 & 96-93 for Olisha and 95-94 for Casa.
Other Results:
Flyweight Daniel Fereras won by a split decision over Geno Quilitar in their 6-round fight with the judges scoring the fight 59-54 and 58-55 for Fereras and 57-56 for Quilitar.
Minimumweight Ruel Lagunero TKO'd Manny Baguio at 2' 14" in the second round of their 6-round fight after Baguio was decked for the 3rd time in the round.

Bantamweight Aldren Guara scored a 1st round KO at 2' over and overmatched John Mark Villareal.
Minimumweight Quilver Cailing won by UD over Rey Aclo with the three judges scoring the fight at 40-36.
In the special 3-round amateur attraction, Marvin Sonsona KO'd Joe Galamiton in the second round. The head gear was not enough to cushion the effect of the power punches unleashed by the promising teenager Sonsona.
